The program follows Bill, Ryan and Ryan's father, Poppy, who use their Colorado homes as a base to build and test inventions used across the country that help fight bad weather and harness its power for everyday use--and all on a shoestring budget.
Starting from scratch and sometimes helping other inventors along the way, the boys' creations run the gamut from homemade mosquito traps and solar water heaters to repairing a nearby town's wind generator--and all done with equal amounts of setbacks, success and fun.
Ryan Parker (The Thinker): Ryan grew up as an All-American farm boy and the apple of his Poppy’s eye in Castle Rock, Colorado. He is a real estate agent and local fireman, but his real passion lays in helping local farmers and others in need by developing low-cost backyard creations to deal with the untimely weather conditions that come with living 7,600 feet above sea level. He loves brainstorming and creating inventions that help fight droughts, hail storms, tornados, and any other weather hurdle that folks are challenged with.
Bill LeVasseur (The Tech): Bill is Ryan’s best friend and according to Poppy, “Bill is the daughter I never had... (because he acts like a little girl).” Bill served his country as an Air Force F-16 mechanic during the desert storm war. While he may be an All- American hero, Ryan and Poppy constantly razz Bill because he drives a Porsche, a Ducati motorcycle, and seems to love everything that’s not made in the USA. However, Bill is a great engineer and has a terrific technical mind that helps get Poppy and Ryan out of difficult build situations.
Rob “Poppy” Parker (The Tinkerer): Poppy spent his life working full-time at Coors Brewing Co. while also being a full time farmer. He’s recently retired, but spends most of his time inventing, building, and testing his latest creations in hopes of finding new ways to help farmers on a budget, and possibly discovering inventions that could change the world for the better. Poppy is known as the ultimate backyard genius in his area and has been helping the community build backyard inventions for the past 30 years.
