Peter Mondavi, Jr - Proprietor Charles Krug Winery
“I was born and raised around grapes and wine. It has always been part of me,” says Peter Mondavi, Jr., 50, the youngest son of family patriarch Peter Mondavi, Sr., and grandson of Cesare and Rosa Mondavi, the Napa Valley pioneers who purchased the historic Charles Krug winery in 1943. Peter Mondavi, Jr.’s education began as a boy growing up on the Charles Krug estate in St. Helena, CA, where he and older brother Marc sanded fermenting tanks, unpacked glasses, worked in the winery’s laboratory, and drove tractors through the vineyard.
Peter inherited his love of food from his grandmother Rosa, who taught him the fine points of food and wine pairing. While Charles Krug wines reflect their origins in the most prestigious Napa Valley appellations, they resemble his grandmother’s beloved Italian wine in one way: they are well balanced and structured to accompany food. Demonstrating a commitment to the land that only a family-owned and operated business can make, the third generation of Mondavis has invested $21.6 million in replanting the 850-acre estate, renewing the winery’s focus on Cabernet Sauvignon and other red Bordeaux varietals and converting to sustainable farming methods. Another $8.5 million has been invested in the historic renovation of the original 1800’s stone structures. Peter’s leadership and environmental stewardship was recognized in Vanity Fair's 2007 “Green Issue,” and he was invited to pour Charles Krug wines at the premiere of Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental documentary film, "The 11th Hour," in August, 2007. As international wine conglomerates take root elsewhere in the Valley, the Mondavis are resolute in their intention to remain independent and family owned. “Between Dad, Marc and me, we have been making wine from grapes grown on these vineyards for over 60 years. There’s a love and dedication there that I believe you can taste in the wine,” Peter says. Peter Mondavi, Jr., may have started his education at the winery, but he completed it at Stanford, where he earned a BS in mechanical engineering, an MS in engineering management and an MBA. He is a prolific fundraiser for various charities, including the Make-A-Wish Foundation, among others. Peter was named the 2008 California Wine Ambassador by the Portland Classic Wines Auction, chosen from the most respected wineries producing premium wines representative of their regions. In addition to his winery activities he sits on the boards of the Stanford Business School Alumni Association, Yountville Appellation Association and the Bottlenotes Advisory Board. Peter is a former board member of both the Napa Valley Vintners Association and Family Winemakers of California. He is also an active member of numerous wine-related organizations, including the Wine and Food Society of San Francisco. He lives in Napa Valley with his wife Katie Williams-Mondavi and their two children.

Chef Heather Gardea VP F B/Executive Chef Coco's and Carrow's Restaurants
It all began back in 1948, with one little restaurant along Pacific Coast Highway in Orange County, California. Today, there are over 110 Coco's Bakery Restaurants in the Western United States including California, Arizona, Nevada and Colorado. We believe we can attribute our success to some very basic but important principles that we've never veered from. First, when you define yourself as being in the "Family Dining Category" as we have, then you'd better make sure you provide families with not just exceptional food, but exceptional value. Second, you have to remember that customers are more than just folks who come in for a meal. They're our special guests, and should be treated as such. And so our team members understand that since our guests make our business what it is, that they should always be made to feel at home. Third, we decided a long time ago to be more than just a restaurant. We are a bakery, too, just like it says in our name: "Coco's Bakery Restaurant." So in addition to creating many signature entrée items, we pride ourselves on delivering the tastiest, most mouth-watering freshly baked pies, cakes, muffins, cookies, biscuits and more. Being a bakery allows us to provide things other restaurants in our category simply can't, and it's become an important trademark of Coco's. From the magic of our holiday pies, right down to our baskets of freshly baked bread, we believe our bakery makes us special. Our current menu embraces today's emerging food trends with creative and diverse offerings as well as traditional favorites, and in the near future we'll be introducing many new innovative selections as well. For breakfast, lunch or at dinnertime, there are always many exceptional choices at Coco's. (Some restaurants even feature an Espresso Bar with a fine selection of Espresso, Cappuccino and Cafe Latte.) For more than 55 years, Coco's has had the privilege of serving guests. We look forward to serving you for the next 55 years and beyond, continuing to grow our reputation as that "Warm and cozy little place with the nice people and those amazing pies

Tobin (Toby) James - Tobin James Cellars
Tobin (Toby) James grew up on a vineyard in Indiana, worked in a wine shop in Cincinnati and knew at the age of 18 that he would own a winery. He apprenticed at the Estrella River Winery, eventually being hired on full time and becoming their cellar master. From there, he headed to Eberle Winery to eventually make their wines with Gary Eberle. When Peachy Canyon started, the owner needed a winemaker. The very first wine Toby made won a spot on the coveted "top 100" wines of the year with the Wine Spectator. Toby's reputation continued to grow, and in 1993 decided to build his own winery on highway 46 east of Paso Robles.

Chef Holly Petersen - "Sea Salt"
When you’ve cooked in great restaurant kitchens around the world for years, you know instantly what the essential element in your tool kit is: for Chef Holly Peterson, it’s pure grey salt crystals from Brittany, France. Holly first discovered the wonderful properties of pure sea salt while working in a three-star European restaurant, and began using it in place of ordinary table salt for all her original recipes. As the demand for a reliable source of sea salt grew, Sea Star™ was born, providing chefs, both professional and amateur, with this flavorful, high quality seasoning. Holly Peterson's credentials include a degree in enology from U.C. Davis and Grand Diplome de Cuisine from the prestigious La Varenne cooking school. She spent years cooking professionally in France, including stints at Château Mouton-Rothschild, Krug, and Remy-Martin. She made news in Europe when she was chosen as the first female chef at a Michelin three-star restaurant, Tantris, in Munich. When she returned to the United States, Holly spent eight years at the Robert Mondavi Winery, developing food and wine programs and events. Now, she teaches food and wine dynamics at The Culinary Institute of America at Greystone. Much of her time outside of teaching is spent importing and marketing Sea Star™ Sea Salt. "It's amazing how one salt can differ from another farmed in the same region," says Holly, who compares the many variables that affect the flavor of the salt to those that affect the flavor of wine. "Good salt used to be everywhere," notes Holly, explaining that the water the salt is harvested from in Brittany is the cleanest in the world. "This is the last region."

Traci Rodemeyer Manager Pork Information - National Pork Board
The National Pork Board was created by an Act of Congress that established the pork checkoff. The Pork Promotion, Research and Consumer Information Act of 1985 is commonly known as the Pork Act. Pork producers asked Congress to make the checkoff a mandatory, national program and, in a vote in 1988, affirmed the continuation of the pork checkoff. The Pork Act outlines how checkoff funds must be used. The National Pork Board collects checkoff on all U.S. produced market hogs, feeder pigs, breeding stock, imported hogs and pork products. The National Pork Board administers programs and allocates checkoff funds according to priorities determined by those who pay the checkoff. Producer priorities are determined through various methods to identify and prioritize key issues affecting the pork industry. At the national level, programs are administered by the National Pork Board. The Pork Act requires that a percentage of the checkoff funds collected each year be returned to state producer associations. The National Pork Board is responsible for communicating with pork producers and the public. Communications tools include a quarterly magazine, a radio service with farm broadcasters, newsletters and Internet sites to keep people who pay the checkoff informed about the programs their investments support.

Gary Seltzer "Gary Poppins" www.garypoppins.com
I love popcorn! I always have, ever since I was a kid and my parents would take me to the movies every week. Sometimes I didn't even care what the movie was, as long as I got my popcorn. I loved the crunch, and the melted butter mixing with the saltiness. So, that's where it began. But, of course, there's more. You see, my dad owned a bakery. So, I was always watching the bakers mixing the ingredients and experimenting with new recipes. I learned about quality and perfection - only the finest ingredients, no exceptions, perfectly blended and prepared.

Randy Lynch - Owner - Bennett Lane Winery
Randy and Lisa Lynch came to wine through their travels in Italy, where the fruit of the vine is typically a complement to a meal-not the centerpiece. When their growing passion for fine food and wine led them to plant acreage in Napa Valley, Randy and Lisa decided to create a red wine that would easily find a place at the dinner table. Maximus, named after the wine-loving, 2nd century Roman Emperor Magnus Maximus, became their initial bottling. Prior to purchasing Bennett Lane, Randy built a successful marketing company in San Ramon, just east of San Francisco. He also has a passion for fast cars, which he raced when he was younger. Today, when not working on other professional pursuits, Randy focuses on his championship winning NASCAR West team, which regularly tours the western U.S. circuit. Follow Napa Valley's Route 29 north to Calistoga, and then keep going just 2 1/2 more miles. You'll arrive at the pinnacle of the Napa Valley - the northernmost wedge where the Vaca mountain range meets the Mayacamas range. Here you will also find Bennett Lane Winery, sitting snugly at the edge of its own well-maintained Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard. Owners Randy and Lisa Lynch purchased the property only five and a half years ago, but Bennett Lane is already making a splash in wine country with its lush textured Cabernet Sauvignon and a no-nonsense red wine varietal blend called Maximus, composed of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah. The winery has garnered an incredible eleven 90+ Point Scores from Wine Spectator in three and a half short years. Maximus leads the way in Bennett Lane's quest to produce high quality Napa Valley red wine. The 2002 Maximus was named the Top Value Napa Valley Cabernet for the 2002 vintage by Wine Spectator's James Laube and the 2003 Maximus made a splash with a 90 Point rating from the Wine Spectator. Our newest vintage, 2005 Maximus, was also awarded 90 Points by Wine Spectator and was named an "Outstanding Vallue". The Cabernet Sauvignon program at Bennett Lane has two stars shining, the Napa Valley Cabernet and the Primus Reserve Cabernet. Our 2003 Vintages were both listed among the Top 50 Cabs in Napa for the year, with the Reserve scoring a stellar 93 Points. The 2004 releases followed suit, with a 91 Point Score for the Reserve and 92 Points for our Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Our latest release is the 2005 Reserve Cabernet, scoring 91 Points in Wine Spectator.

And surprise your mom, sister or best friend with a “Birthday Girl” or “Celebrate” sundae bowl to remind them how much you care on their special day or joyous occasion. The “Love My Sundae” collection also includes three of Lolita’s most sought after designs – Birthday Girl, Princess and Who Needs a Man? Designs by Lolita® celebrate personalities, holidays and life’s moments large and small, making these sundae bowls a deliciously different gift for that family and friends will use over and over. It all started with a girls’ night out… one that contained more than the usual laughter and fun. Browsing for the first time through a Martini menu, Lolita was inspired by the recipes. After being served a Cosmopolitan, her creative imagination made her see the glass differently – the way she thought it should be – a bit more dressed up with a pattern, with flair and a fabulous recipe on the bottom. It would become the first of many times Lolita would find a colorful vision dancing in a glass. After seeing each of her friends pick a different martini, reflective of their distinct personalities, the foundation for a product line was created. She knew this was something she had to pursue and she whole-heartedly did. The concept was developed in 2001 and after sketching, planning and nurturing the line, the “Love My Martini™” collection blossomed in 2004 to soon become the hottest gift brand in America today. As a student, Lolita nurtured her love of creativity, entrepreneurship and business. After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a double major in Marketing and Fine Arts from Mary Baldwin College in Virginia, her hard work helped jumpstart her career working in advertising and for Christian Dior and Donna Karan in the fashion industry. With experience behind her and inspiration from a fun girls’ night out, her special idea was in her capable hands to make her product idea a reality. Relying on her marketing and creative skills to help polish her crystal clear vision, she chose to tailor her product to each individual and give it the variety it needed to succeed. And it did. As a designer, Lolita sees something quite extraordinary in the everyday and ordinary of life. She brings her vision into her products as a reflection of the Lolita lifestyle. It’s a balance of fun, entertaining and celebrating moments with the special people in our lives. As a designer, she injects her energy and charm into everything she produces, always pushing her designs in the fashion forward direction. Lolita monitors the trends, colors, textures and attitudes of the European runways. She takes care to incorporate the latest inspiration into her unique ideas and style when designing. As an artist budding in early childhood, Lolita was driven to enter drawing contests, compete for art awards, file for and procure her own copyright – all before the age of 12. She grew up embracing the creative process, the lifestyle of noticing color combinations, details, and trends. Her family would say, “She has always been an artist.” As she grew and her career moved forward in other creative directions, she never lost her passion for painting. Her business allowed her to find her way back to painting. Now, as a seasoned artist, she enjoys the variety of shapes that act as her canvas and dives in with excitement.
She would say she was never afraid of a crowd, or the stage. In fact she would embrace it. By drawing on her former dramatic roles, musical parts, fashion, acting and modeling background earlier in her career, Lolita enjoys being the strong and vibrant image behind the imagination of the brand, Lolita. As a female entrepreneur, Lolita knows it is no secret the crazy busy pace a woman in business raising a family needs to uphold. Running a business out of her basement with two toddler girls hanging onto her leg, she kept her hands dancing, creating, and moving to ship thousands of hand painted glasses and grow her business. As a business owner with an education in marketing, fine art and years of experience in the fashion industry, Lolita learned to create, strategize and market a product line and pair it with her artistic vision. Achieving her goal of being licensed was reached in 2004. Seeing first hand the loyal following and enthusiasm from her customers and fans is nothing but energizing to her. She knows they understand her vision and her products and the fun and special qualities that make them unique, sought out and collected. Launching her first product line “Love My Martini™” was the beginning of a whole new playground she introduced to the public. Now, after many successful products, designs and collections have been thriving in the market, she continues to stand behind what she always believed to be attributed to her success and her enjoyment in life. Lolita believes that life should be lived to its fullest, and every moment should be celebrated.

Greg Harper, AKA "The Answerman"
The switch to all-digital TV broadcasting will finally arrive in a few days and despite the continuous on-air reminders about the DTV transition, a new survey indicates almost four million households are still unprepared and millions still have questions!! The nation’s Digital TV transition is scheduled to occur on Friday June 12th at midnight locally.

Ken Hinman President - National Coalition for Marine Conservation
Restaurant chefs and seafood retailers take heed. American consumers are overwhelmingly alarmed about the dramatic decline in marlin and other billfish populations. By taking the “Take Marlin Off The Menu” campaign (www.takemarlinoffthemenu.org) to the stomachs of American consumers, The International Game Fish Association (IGFA), the National Coalition for Marine Conservation (NCMC) and The Billfish Foundation (TBF) are striving to take a bite out of commercial overfishing in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, which accounts for more than 90% of the annual marlin mortality. The challenge facing the Take Marlin Off the Menu Campaign is drawing awareness to the plight of marlin and other billfish. Unfortunately, many Americans are not aware that marlin have suffered a dramatic population decline. Once knowing that marlin populations have declined excessively and are in peril, 70% of American consumers said they would have a negative impression of restaurants and seafood retailers that serve marlin. When it comes to ordering marlin at a restaurant or purchasing it from a seafood retailer such as a grocery store or an independent seafood retailer, 78% of Americans said they would not eat marlin, and nearly a third surveyed said they would not walk into an establishment that serves marlin. In addition to warning consumers about the perilous status of marlin and billfish populations, the Take Marlin Off The Menu Campaign also intends to alert chefs and consumers about the possible health risks associated with eating marlin due to the high mercury level. To assist restaurants and seafood retailers in going marlin free, the Take Marlin Off the Menu Campaign will promote all restaurants and seafood retailers that take the “Marlin Free Pledge.” The campaign will list any chefs and restaurants that are dedicated to not serving marlin and billfish, or seafood retailers that decide not to sell marlin. Because there are many sustainable alternatives to eating marlin, the web site features links to seafood guides that point American consumers to the restaurants and seafood retailers that sell sustainable species.
