The belle of all things “berrylicious,” the California Strawberry Festival May 16 & 17 in Oxnard celebrates 32 years of serving up all day fun with delicious eats, entertainment and fine arts. Right in our own backyard, it ranks tops in the nation and proceeds for charity now top $4.5 million.
Featuring 50+ food booths, contests like the tart toss and shortcake build off, celebrity chef demonstrations, Strawberryland For Kids with rides, 200+ Fine Arts & Crafts exhibitors and live entertainment, there’s something for everyone.
Hours are 10:00am to 6:30pm. The two-time Grammy-award winning “Maraichi Divas” and “Dirty Rice” headline the non-stop concerts on multiple stages.
We’ll bring the Festival to you if you’d like to feature a real taste of what’s in store for the upcoming weekend when 1.5 million strawberries will be consumed.
Strawberry Smackdown
Here's the scoop on the new contest they’ll be doing:
Similar to the Food Network’s popular “Chopped” show, two chefs put their creative talents to the test in front of a live audience in the Strawberry Promenade at 1pm at the 32nd annual California Strawberry Festival, Sunday, May 17th. TV monitors within the popular tented oasis cover all the action for the standing-room-only audience.
The CA Strawberry Festival, CSF, will supply all the ingredients, but chefs bring their own spices/accents they can’t live without. Strawberries and select key ingredients will be at each chef’s disposal in the “Strawberry Smackdown Mystery Ingredients Box.” Their task will be to create an incredible dish within 30 minutes that best utilizes the strawberries – can be dessert, sauce, main dish, beverage, appetizer, snack, spread, etc. They will not have any knowledge of the ingredients in advance of the challenge. This is a no-bake challenge. There is a refrigerator; an electric burner and non-stick electric grill available for their use, along with mixers, blenders, and a food processor.
A panel of judges will determine the champion. The designated winner receives a two-night getaway vacation to either San Diego or Palm Springs, courtesy of Welk Resorts.
