Hank Cardello - "Stuffed: An Insider's Look at Who's Making America Fat"
Hank is chief executive officer of 27° North (www.27degNorth.com ), a consulting firm that helps businesses take the lead on solving social issues. For more than three decades he was an executive at some of the world's largest food and beverage companies, including Coca-Cola and General Mills. Today he chairs the annual Global Obesity Business Forum, sponsored by the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Cardello lives in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. With insights culled from Cardello's time in the food industry, Stuffed explores how food companies have spent the last fifty years largely ignoring healthier fare in the name of their bottom lines while pushing consumers toward "convenience" food and supersize portions without considering the health consequences. From grocery aisles to restaurant booths to boardrooms, Cardello reveals the hidden forces that have long shaped your supermarket purchases and menu selections. He examines the black-and-white mindset that has produced the carefully targeted marketing strategies that have maximized profits for the food industry and led to weight gain for you.

Janet Trefethen CEO Trefethen Family Vineyards (Auction Napa Valley)
As one of the first women CEO’s of an American corporation, Janet Trefethen could not have picked a worse industry to get started in. “I got laughed out of so many offices,” she remembers with a rueful smile. “When you called on an account in the early 1970’s, trying to sell California wine, that was usually enough. But when they learned that the woman in front of them was not only a salesperson but the Chief Executive Officer of the company, they generally went into hysterics.” Janet took it all in stride, though. She had learned to shrug off life’s little indignities a long time ago.
John D. Harrison - Official Ice Cream Taster
OFFICIAL TASTER FOR DREYER’S AND EDY’S ICE CREAMS
John Harrison has more than 40 years of experience in the ice cream industry. His interest and expertise in ice cream stems from his family tree where four generations of his family members were involved in the industry. In his youth, ice cream was his favorite dessert; during his college years, he worked (and tasted) his way through college at his uncle's ice cream plant in Tennessee. Harrison joined Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream in 1982. Prior to his position with Dreyer’s, marketed under the Edy’s brand name in all states east of the Rockies, he was with Dari-Tech, an ingredient supplier, for 12-years, where he was the National Sales Manager. During that time he also assisted as an independent consultant for Dreyer’s new flavor formulas. In addition to Harrison's technical background, he also is an ice cream history and trivia buff. Answering questions ranging from fun facts on the history of ice cream to current trends toward decadent ice cream indulgences is just an added benefit to Harrison's job. His expertise is so crucial to Dreyer’s and Edy’s that his taste buds are insured for a cool $1 million. He has traveled throughout North and South America, visiting every ice cream plant on both continents and tasted more than a million gallons of ice cream during his career.
