Norm Sawicki - Owner - Trancas Steakhouse - Napa, CA
After a very long day we were so hungry. All we wanted was a big huge steak. Checked out yelp and voila this place came up, we were two miles away, had good reviews, so we drove over. Good size steakhouse, nothing fancy, very casual, nice big bar when you enter. Got seated, menu's given, drinks ordered, well just water for now. Hubby ordered Pork Chops with a side of rice and steamed veggies. I chose the Prime Rib with mashed potatoes and veggies. Service was good, never leaving are drinks empty and checking on us. Food arrives and wow what a very pleasant surprise, especially when you are hungry. My Prime Rib was warm and red, Au jus on the side, cooked perfect with such great flavor and at such an excellent price. Potatoes and veggies were good. Hubby loved his Pork Chop as well. This was a great find, thanks to yelp. Another local hangout with very reasonable prices and probably the best Prime Rib I have ever had. The sign outside said they are famous for the Prime Rib and let me tell you that is no lie. It was awesome!

5/11 - Sarah Quider, Sam Poueu, Peter Pahk, Frank Pellegrino,
Sarah Quider - Winemaker - Ferrari-Carano Vineyards & Winery
Sarah Quider began her winemaking career at Ferrari-Carano in1995, when she was hired as a harvest intern. Sarah then worked at Jordan winery from 1999 to 2003, while also completing a degree in Viticulture and Enology from the University of California, Davis. Sarah returned to Ferrari-Carano in 2003 as assistant winemaker, and was quickly promoted to associate winemaker in charge of the Russian River White Wine Program. As winemaker for the White Wines Program, Sarah will build on the foundation that George Bursick established; the tradition of employing gentle winemaking techniques, blending wine for style, quality and the multidimensional complexity that characterizes Ferrari-Carano’s wines. “My goal is to make complex, intense and seamless wines that are balanced in both richness and delicacy,” said Sarah. “We have such tremendous diversity in our vineyards because we are located in various appellations, each with unique micro-climates, soils and clones. I am looking forward to expressing that diversity in our wines.” Sarah has two children, Cameron and Sophia, enjoys snow skiing and spends what is left of her free time remodeling her home.
SAM POUEU (Eliminated Contestant NBC's "The Biggest Loser")
This week, “The Biggest Loser: Couples” contestants get encouragement from Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo, and helpful advice from two past season winners – Helen Phillips (season seven) and Erik Chopin (season three) – on the episode airing Tuesday, May 11 (8-10 p.m. ET) on NBC. First, the five remaining players get some game-changing news from host Alison Sweeney: there will be no yellow line this week, just a red line. So friendships and alliances won’t help those who are left – whoever falls below the red line will go home automatically, leaving this season’s final four. The tension mounts, especially for one player who struggles to appreciate all they have accomplished so far. Then trainer Bob Harper surprises the contestants with an introduction to Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo while they are out shopping. The NFL superstar encourages the contestants and talks about the inspirational role models they have become before taking them on a hike with Bob. Later, they also get surprise visits from two past season winners – Helen Phillips and Erik Chopin. While Helen has maintained a healthy weight since winning season seven, Erik has openly struggled with his weight and gained back much of what he lost. He talks very candidly about his challenges and his plan to get back on track, and Helen shares helpful advice about keeping the weight off once they leave the ranch.
Frank Pellegrino - Rao's - New York / Las Vegas
Rao's is renowned for its jukebox, its quirky decor, its unmatched hospitality and most of all, the spectacular Neapolitan cuisine. It's also notorious for being one of the most difficult restaurants in New York in which to get a reservation. Year-long waits for one of its ten tables are not uncommon. But what is it about this tiny, charming restaurant that makes it the most in-demand spot in the city night after night, year after year? For decades Rao's existed as a neighborhood restaurant. Its local customers would fill the tables with such regularity that eventually they were given standing reservations - bookings that persevere to this day. The Rao's phenomenon exploded in 1977, when New York Times food critic Mimi Sheraton gave Rao's a gushing, half-page, three-star review, splashing the city's best-kept secret in front of millions of readers. Since Rao's NYC location only has ten tables, and only one seating per evening, the resulting demand would have been overwhelming even if the tables weren't already spoken for. That the tables were "owned" like a condominium translated to almost no empty seats in the house, night after night.

5/6 - Sandra Lee, Chuck Woolery, Joey Vento, Troy Roberts,
Troy Roberts - "48 HOURS MYSTERY " - “SHELLEY’S LAST BREATH”
Shelley Tyre met David Swain, a divorced father of two, in the early 1990’s. . The two shared a passion for the ocean and diving. Shelley was a bundle of energy, a teacher and school administrator. Swain was an active member of the community, running a local dive shop in Jamestown, Rhode Island. She was as vivacious as he was quiet. The couple married in 1993 and Shelley became actively involved in David's dive shop -- planning the big expansion to add a pool so he could teach diving year round. In the spring of 1999, Shelley and David planned a driving trip in the Tortola Islands. They chartered a 40-foot sailboat with another couple set out to swim with the most beautiful wildlife in the Caribbean. But what happened on that last fateful dive, eighty-feet beneath the surface would be examined and replayed in people's minds for the next decade. The couple dove into the ocean and only after 30 minutes, David surfaced, holding a lifeless Shelley in his arms. After returning to the boat, he performed CPR on her, but was unable to save her life. Today, David is unable to explain what happened to Shelley, but claims he was no where near her when she went unconscious under water. Tortola police questioned David, found no evidence of foul play and performed an autopsy. They ruled Shelley’s death an accident. Shelley’s parents were devastated and found David’s calm demeanor in the following weeks, very disturbing. They were convinced that Shelley’s death was not an accident…instead, it was murder. A diving expert examined Shelley's scuba equipment and found that her mask, mouth piece and fin had been tampered with…leading them to believe that somebody drowned her while beneath the surface. What really happened to Shelley Tyre? Troy Roberts investigates on this week’s 48 Hours Mystery. SATURDAY MAY 8th ON 48 HOURS MYSTERY AT 10pmET/9CT

5/5 - Andrew Caldwell , Matt Martinez ,
Laurena Martini - The History of Mexican Food
The history of Mexican food is long and distinct. Since before the 1500s, the making of fine Mexican cuisine has been in the making. The foods of Mexico are known for having rich flavors and brilliant colors, and are made from a variety of ingredients. Yet many people shy away from eating Mexican food because they buy into the myth that it is mainly a spicy cuisine.
Andrew Caldwell - " Their Last Suppers: Legends of History and Their Final Meals
Did you know that Adolph Hitler was a vegetarian and his longtime private chef was Jewish? What dish played an integral role in Marilyn Monroe's unsuccessful bid to woo back Bobby Kennedy? Part historical narrative and part grilling guide cookbook, Andrew Caldwell's Their Last Suppers: Legends of History and Their Final Meals guides history buffs and gourmands alike through gastronomically inspired biographical accounts of more than 20 legendary personalities. Unearthing recipes as far back as 323 B.C., Caldwell, The History ChefTM , provides insight into 2,000 years of culinary lore. Each historical figure's profile includes a brief description of pursuits and accomplishments as well as little-known anecdotes, popular foods of his or her time period, recipes for the figure's actual last meal, and cooking tips. Because the kitchens of Montezuma, Caesar, and other notables profiled within the book were often very basic, Caldwell brings their fare into modern kitchens, although he strongly believes that, whenever possible, grills and open fires should be used for most dishes and therefore provides specific preparation tips throughout. From the Titanic's 12-course tasting menu to personal recipes for Princess Diana's Favorite Watercress Soup, Elvis Presley's Fried Peanut Butter and Banana Sandwich, Julius Caesar's Ambrosia, Cleopatra's Hummus, and Stone Crab a la Kennedy, historians and foodies alike will relish the trivia and tastings paired within Their Last Suppers: Legends of History and Their Final Meals. Andrew initially was trained as a classical chef in some of Bermuda's, finer resorts. From an early age he was recognized for his creative talent and has won gold medals for ice and butter sculpture. Working through the kitchens he moved into management, eventually becoming General Manager in some of the world's largest resorts. He has managed properties in some twelve countries and later went on to do consultancy in places such as South Africa, Egypt, the United States, the Caribbean, Spain and France. Eventually developing his own hotel from scratch in New Mexico, he took a rundown adobe estate in Albuqueque and within two years 'Las Palomas' was rated in 'Americas Top 100 Little Inns'. Always being a student of history, Andrew has walked Hadrians Wall, The Inca Road in Peru and visited Pyramid sites from Egypt to Mexico to satisfy his thirst for knowledge. The pirate haunts of the Caribbean and the lost cities of Central America have also been visited. 'Their Last Suppers' comes from a desire to combine history and food in a package that people today with their active lifestyles can appreciate. The history is cutting edge, accurate, concise and fun and the recipes are easy. "We can teach ourselves and our children so much by learning from the past. This way we can do it with a great meal along the way--Cheers!"
Matt Martinez "Mixologist"
Cinco de Mayo segment to share some information about the holiday and how to prepare a few Herradura-based cocktails, including the classic margarita.
Dr. Howard Shapiro (CNN, Oprah, GMA), and Chef Franklin Becker:
The key to battling this epidemic is better control of our diets, and it can be done without sacrificing taste or many of the delicious foods we love. According to Dr. Howard Shapiro and Chef Franklin Becker – who was diagnosed with diabetes at age 27 – the secret to healthy weight control/loss is their Beat Diabetes Food Pyramid. Containing four powerful weapons called “The Four Phenoms”, fiber, phytonutrients, soy protein, and good fats, Dr. Shapiro and chef Becker can identify foods that can literally stop the effects and growth of diabetes. Their new book, Eat & Beat Diabetes With Picture Perfect Weight Loss (Harlequin, May 2010) gives people a much needed user-friendly approach to figuring out a healthy lifestyle full of tasty meals, and can save millions of lives with its foolproof and sensible diet.

Chef Roberto Santibanez "The Top Mexican Chef in America"
As with Most legendary chefs, his love affair with cooking began as a young boy when his grandmother, a “word traveler,” taught him that food preparation does not always have to be by the (recipe) book. After working in kitchens throughout college, Santibanez went on to strengthen his classical culinary foundations at the renowned Le Cordon Bleu in Paris. After graduating from the renowned Le Cordon Bleu culinary school, he opened several highly acclaimed restaurants in Mexico City and spent four years as executive chef at Fonda San Miguel in Austin, Texas. While there, The Austin Chronicle named him “Best Chef” and The Austin American-Statesman gave his food five stars. In 2002, he left to become the Culinary Director for Rosa Mexicano restaurants, which during his tenure Zagat Survey called the “gold standard for upscale Mexican dining." At Fonda, his new restaurant, he applies more than two decades of devotion to the cuisine of his native country, bringing the kind of contemporary, urban Mexican food you’d find in Mexico City to a relaxed, fun atmosphere in Brooklyn. Roberto Santibañez, the culinary director of Rosa Mexicano, has been featured in Martha Stewart Living, Bon Appétit, Gourmet, Life, Us, Self, and The Washington Post; this is his first book. Rosa Mexicano opened its doors in 1984; more than two decades later, there are three outposts in New York City, one apiece in Washington and Atlanta, one in Palm Beach, and two new ones opening in Miami and Hackensack, New Jersey.

After the birth of our first daughter, Grace, and several years of city motherhood, we moved to Westchester County where I found friends and home, not to mention a place to park my stroller. Our house centered around my great kitchen window where I can look out and see the glorious seasons change against my garden and stone wall. Greg Grunberg - "Heroes"
Television and film star Greg Grunberg learned that epilepsy can affect anyone at anytime when his son Jake was diagnosed with the condition at the age of seven. Since Jake’s diagnosis, Greg, star of the hit series “Heroes,” has become a personal hero to his son and many others by bringing epilepsy to light on the national stage. Like most families, Greg and his wife knew nothing about epilepsy when Jake was first diagnosed. They turned to doctors, books and the internet to learn as much as they could about the condition. Through their searches, they discovered EpilepsyAdvocate.com , a community of people whose lives are directly impacted by epilepsy, including those with epilepsy, their caregivers, friends and family. These remarkable individuals share their epilepsy challenges and triumphs so that others are empowered to seek the best care to attain the goal of epilepsy independence—seizure freedom and minimal side effects. Greg became Jake’s advocate by seeking medical care from and collaborating with someone who specializes in epilepsy. Today, through his involvement with the Epilepsy Advocate program, Greg has worked tirelessly to educate and empower not only people living with epilepsy, but also their friends and families.
