The Auction Napa Valley E-Auction opens on Sunday, June 1 at noon PDT and this year features a record 177 lots. Bidders anywhere in the world have the chance to acquire extraordinary and often one-of-a-kind wines and experiences with vintners and winemakers, while supporting healthcare and children’s education nonprofit organizations. The e-gavel comes down on Sunday, June 8 beginning at noon PDT. Lots can be viewed and bids placed at auctionnapavalley.org.
In addition to each package showcasing Napa Valley’s coveted wines, more than 80% of this year’s E-Auction lots feature a vintner and/or winery experience not available to the general public, creating very personal connections with the Napa Valley winemaking community.
A contribution of any amount can be made to Lot 301, the Fund-A-Need lot, which goes toward lifting children in the Napa Valley community out of poverty and helping them to lead healthy and successful lives.

About Shannon Staglin
She is President at Staglin Family Vineyard. After graduating from UCLA with a degree in Cultural Anthropology she moved back to Napa to work as a harvest intern in 2001 where she learned the details of production and viticultural practices. In 2002 she moved from the winery into the office where she honed her skills in marketing, hospitality, consumer and trade sales. In 2011 Shannon returned to Staglin Family Vineyard where she oversees all aspects of the business. Her educational and professional experiences provide a new perspective and a fresh outlook that will enhance the family business for many years to come.

5/29 DICK AND JENNIFER DORÉ, FOXEN WINERY, CAITLIN CARVER, ABC FAMILY, THE FOSTERS
GUEST HOSTS DICK AND JENNIFER DORÉ FROM FOXEN WINERY JOIN MIKE AND PAUL IN STUDIO!
Bill Wathen and Dick Doré (also known as the “Foxen Boys”) have been making wine together since 1985, when they founded Foxen Winery & Vineyard at the historic Rancho Tinaquaic in northern Santa Barbara County. Since that time, their dedication has remained the same—the creation of very small production, sustainably-farmed, vineyard-focused wines using a "minimalist" approach to winemaking.
The winery was named in memory of William Benjamin Foxen, an English sea captain and Dick's great-great grandfather, who came to Santa Barbara in the early 1800's. In 1837, this Santa Barbara County pioneer purchased the Rancho Tinaquaic, a Mexican Land Grant that originally totaled nearly 9000 acres and comprised most of what is now known as Foxen Canyon. Captain Foxen adopted the distinctive "anchor" as his ranch cattle brand, which has become a trademark of the winery. It is very fitting that FOXEN has made its home on the 2000-acre Rancho Tinaquaic, which remains in family hands.
With the completion of FOXEN’s new solar-powered winery and tasting room in 2009, the historic and beloved “tasting shack was renamed “foxen 7200”, where Bill and Dick now feature their Bordeaux and Cal-Ital-style wines, under a newly designed label. FOXEN Pinot Noirs, Chardonnays and Rhône-style wines are showcased in the new solar-powered tasting room at 7600 Foxen Canyon Road
Both tasting rooms are open daily, 11 to 4. Bill and Dick invite you to visit FOXEN to taste their wines and experience the bucolic setting of the Rancho Tinaquaic. And then you’ll understand why many say, “If you don’t know FOXEN, you don’t know DICK...or BILL!”

5/28 DR. JEREMY LIEB, PROLARIS, SHAUN MOREY, INCREDIBLE—AND TRUE!—FISHING STORIES
DR. JEREMY LIEB - PHYSICIAN AND BOARD-CERTIFIED UROLOGIST - PROLARIS
DR. JEREMY LIEB is a PHYSICIAN and board-certified urologist from California who is a member of a leading community-based urology practice. He is an expert on prostate cancer diagnosis, prognosis and treatment, including the uses and benefits of genetic testing for clinical decision making.
According to the American Cancer Society, prostate cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death of American men and one in six men will receive a prostate cancer diagnosis in their lifetime.
This year, more than 230,000 new cases will be diagnosed, and 30,000 men will die from prostate cancer. For patients with aggressive disease, surgery and/or radiation treatment is appropriate and life-saving. At the same time, 40 to 50 percent of patients have lower-risk prostate cancer and many are eligible for active surveillance. These patients may opt to avoid or delay surgery and radiation and the side effects associated with these treatments (e.g., urinary incontinence and sexual impotence). However, according to the National Institutes of Health, 9 out of 10 prostate cancer patients who are candidates for active surveillance will instead receive more aggressive treatment.
Prolaris® is the only clinically proven prognostic test for prostate cancer that assesses a patient’s personal risk profile for the spread of the disease or death from the disease. In other words, the Prolaris test results tell patients if they have aggressive or non-aggressive prostate cancer. Armed with this personalized risk assessment, physicians can tailor their treatment plans to individual patients.
About Prolaris®:
Prolaris is a novel 46-gene RNA-expression test that directly measures tumor cell growth characteristics for stratifying the risk of disease progression in prostate cancer patients. Prolaris provides a quantitative measure of the RNA expression levels of genes involved in the progression of tumor growth. Low gene expression is associated with a low risk of disease progression in men who may be candidates for surveillance and high gene expression is associated with a higher risk of disease progression in patients who may benefit from additional therapy. Prolaris has been proven to predict prostate cancer-specific disease progression in 11 clinical trials with more than 5,000 patients.

TODD RAY – AMC’S FREAKSHOW
About the Show: Todd Ray was the very definition of normal. He had a highly successful Grammy-winning career in the music industry, a house in the suburbs, a loving wife and two kids. But Todd’s true passion was with all things unique and different - animals, artifacts or people – and his goal was to one day show the world that normal is never easily defined. Todd and Danielle opened up their hearts and home to animals and people who were truly one of a kind, with the ultimate goal of creating a venue for them to show the world that being different is its own kind of normal. So Todd walked away from his career, and with Danielle by his side, sought out a spot on California's famed Venice Beach Boardwalk to share their unique family.
Season two of Freakshow will continue to follow the lives of Todd Ray and his family as they operate their Venice Beach business and open their home and lives to the ever-changing and growing group of performers who make up their Freakshow family. New talent will be scouted to join the show, and cameras will take viewers out of the business and deeper into the personal lives of the Ray’s and their extended family to document the everyday struggles of balancing life, love and the Freakshow.
Todd Ray is the mastermind behind The Venice Beach Freakshow, a classically-inspired circus sideshow with an attached museum of oddities. A 21st Century P.T. Barnum with a congenital resistance to the very concept of “impossible,” Todd has set out to build the world’s greatest showcase for the unique, the bizarre and the wondrous.
As a teenager in South Carolina, Todd fell in love with the early hip-hop singles coming out of New York and began performing locally with friends. In 1986, he landed a record contract which led him to New York where he met Danielle, the woman whom he would end up spending his life with. Over the next decade, Todd produced and worked with a wide range of artists, including The Beastie Boys, Nas, and Mick Jagger. He won two Grammys for his production of the innovative Latin group Ozomatli and one for his work on Santana's “Supernatural” album, as well as being nominated for Rap single of the year with Cypress Hill. He and Danielle ultimately moved to Los Angeles, settling in the suburbs to raise their two children, Asia and Phoenix.
Successful as he was, Todd had creative ambitions that weren’t being satisfied. “I decided I’d rather share the wonders of the world with families – kids, adults, everybody. I recalled an experience in my childhood, which ultimately changed my life forever. I had gone to a sideshow and saw a man named Otis Jordan (known as The Human Cigarette Factory). Performing without any limbs, he used only his shoulders, chin and tongue to roll a cigarette. At the end, I said to him, ‘I don’t think I could ever do what you did.’ He said to me, ‘Son, if I can do what you saw me do on stage, a young man like you can do anything you ever dreamed of.’ From that moment, the world seemed different and I knew it was my call as to what life could be.”
Venice Beach Freakshow opened in 2006, and since then Todd has searched the world for animal anomalies, bizarre artifacts, and people with unusual physiological traits and astounding talents. He has embraced the word “freak” as a joyous rebuttal to “normal” and the pressure of conformity. “Every single one of us, by virtue of our individuality, is an oddity. We’re each a freak: a freak of the universe,” he stresses. “But a ‘freak’ meaning the most special, the most unique, the most magical creatures in the universe.”

Ozzie Smith is widely cited as one of the greatest defensive baseball players of all time and was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2002. The world champion shortstop, baseball analyst and father of three is passionate about sharing food and laughter while gathered around the grill with family and friends.
Kevin Kolman is Weber's Grill Master who inspires everyday grillers to become backyard heroes through his how-to videos and blogs posts. Because of his passion for grilling, Kevin was invited to be a lead instructor for a barbecue science class at Ohio State University, and has judged grilling competitions around the world.
MYRA GOODMAN - STRAIGHT FROM THE EARTH: IRRESISTIBLE VEGAN RECIPES FOR EVERYONE
Myra Goodman, with her husband Drew, founded Earthbound Farm on their 2 ½ acre backyard in 1984. From an heirloom raspberry patch and roadside stand, Earthbound Farm has become the largest grower of organic produce in North American. As a passionate advocate for organic food and farming, Myra has appeared on dozens of televisions shows, including The Oprah Winfrey Show, Live with Regis and Kelly, and Good Morning America Health, and has been featured in many publications, including More, People, and Bon Appétit. She is the author of Food to Live By and The Earthbound Cook, and the inspiration behind Earthbound Farm’s farm stand café. She and her husband live on their original farm in Carmel Valley, California.
As environmentally healthful and thoughtful eaters pile on the vegetables and fruits and push animal protein off their plates, the desire for more recipes showcasing fresh produce has gone sky high. From Myra Goodman, the co-founder of Earthbound Farm, and her daughter Marea, comes Straight from the Earth, full of creative, delightful vegan recipes that are so delicious you will change your mind about what it means to eat a plant-based diet.
From their humble beginnings as a 2½-acre raspberry farm, Earthbound now grows and distributes organic produce nationally. Myra and Marea are skillful home cooks, and their proximity to fields of fresh vegetables and fruits made it easy to develop creative—and definitely satisfying—dishes that are not only heavy on the produce, they just happen to be completely free of meat or dairy.
Each recipe in Straight from the Earth comes for either Myra or Marea and their unique voices and styles add a personal, conversational element to this collaborative project. Marea, for instance, has long enjoyed a vegan diet, while Myra has not; for Myra, writing the book has transformed the way she eats. Both women excel in salads, and Marea’s deliciously skewed Eccentric Caesar with its cashew and curry based dressing is just a taste of what’s offered.
The book’s diverse and delectable collection of recipes takes you from breakfast and lunch to dinner and dessert with such satisfying delights as Quinoa-Banana Skillet Bake, Slow-Simmered Beans with Tuscan Kale on Bulgur, Thai Fresh Spring Rolls, and Very Chocolaty Chocolate Brownies. And as you prepare each recipe you will gain insight into organics and essential recipe components like nuts and seeds, soy and coconut, and you will learn the practical and personal reasons to eat vegan. Straight from the Earth ensures that you will enjoy and savor every single bite.

JULIE GOULD - CELIAC AWARENESS MONTH – GARDEN LITES VEGGIE MUFFINS
What is Celiac Disease?
Celiac disease is a genetic autoimmune disorder triggered by the ingestion of gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley and rye. An estimated 1 in 133 Americans has celiac disease, yet 83% remain either undiagnosed or misdiagnosed. Currently, the only treatment is a strict, lifelong gluten-free diet.
What is Gluten Sensitivity?
Non-celiac gluten sensitivity ('gluten sensitivity') is a non-specific immune response to gluten that presents with symptoms similar to celiac disease. According to preliminary research, gluten sensitivity does not result in damage to the intestine. Research is conflicting, but it has been estimated that up to 6% of the American population has this condition. Researchers don’t fully understand the long-term effects of gluten sensitivity, but a gluten-free diet is the current recommended treatment.
In honor of Celiac Awarness Month try Garden Lites Veggie Muffins, a new snack that has vegetables as the first ingredient and is 100% gluten free. Julie has lots of relevant information she can share on celiac's disease and why so many Americans are choosing to opt for a gluten free diet. In addition, she can speak to some of the newly released flavors of Veggie Muffins - Banana Choc Chip, Zucchini Chocolate, Blueberry Oat, Carrot Berry and Golden Corn. In addition to being gluten free, they are vegetarian, low in calories and Kosher parve.
The company also makes veggie souffles - with 4 grams of fiber and they're gluten free, too.

5/20 GARY PISONI, MARGARETE GRAY, IN LABOR AND THE LOCAVORE
SPECIAL GUEST GARY PISONI JOINS IN ON THE WHAT'S COOKIN' SHOW!
Winegrower Gary Pisoni comes from generations of farmers who tended row crops long before he was born. His parents, Swiss-Italian immigrants, Eddie and Jane Pison, began farming vegetables in the Salinas Valley in 1952.
Pisoni enjoyed drinking and collecting fine French wines while in college. When he graduated, he was eager to find a way into the wine business. When he told his father he wanted to plant grapevines on the family cattle ranch in the Santa Lucia Highlands, he was met with several objections, not the least of which was the cost. Gary countered to his father, “Have you ever been to a $250 lettuce tasting?” His father relented and a legendary vineyard was born in 1982. Gary’s positive energy has made him a household name and a passionate pioneer among Pinot circles.
Gary planted his first 5 acres of own-rooted vines in virgin soil at 1,300 foot elevation. It took ten years of witchers and well drillers to tap into a water source on the sixth try. Water turned the wilderness into a garden and made Gary’s dream come true. The original vines are rumored to be from suitcase cuttings from a famous domaine in Vosne-Romanee, now called the Pisoni clone or selection.
Winemaker son Jeff and grape grower son Mark created the Pisoni label, releasing the first estate Pinot Noir in 1998. A second label, Lucia, debuted in 2000. Pisoni fruit quickly became highly prized in California and Pisoni Vineyard put Santa Lucia Highlands on the map, becoming one of California’s true ‘cult’ vineyards. Many top producers craft a Pisoni vineyard-designate Pinot Noir (Arcadian, Capiaux, Morgan, Patz & Hall, Peter Michael, Siduri, Tantara, Testarossa). Gary Pisoni also manages nearby Garys’ Vineyard with Gary Franscioni.
The Pisoni Estate Pinot Noir is sold exclusively through a mailing list. The Lucia wines are made in larger quantities and are sold through a mailing list offering and retail distribution (see Lucia in Winery Directory).
To coinicide with the 30th anniversary of Pisoni Vineyards, a Pisoni Estate Chardonnay was offered with the 2010 vintage. Chardonnay was initially planted at Pisoni Vineyards in 1982, but the fruit has gone into Lucia Chardonnay. The Pisoni Chardonnay comes from some original 30-year-old vines and some from blocks planted in 1999. Only 100 cases produced.
MARGARET GRAY – IN LABOR AND THE LOCAVORE: THE MAKING OF A COMPREHENSIVE FOOD ETHIC
To most minds, locally grown equals small, sustainable, and simply better than eating the tasteless produce and processed goods shipped to supermarkets from the big world of factory farms.
The “eat local” movement in the U.S. is growing and much of the food movement writing is premised on a food ethic. When we talk about concern for animal welfare and protecting the environment from toxic pesticides we are thinking about what we put in our bodies, but more important, we desire to make the world a better place through our food purchases.
So if we use that logic, then by all means shouldn’t those who plant and harvest our food be included in any discussion about sustainable and ethical farming?
In LABOR AND THE LOCAVORE: The Making of a Comprehensive Food Ethic (Univ. of California Press, 2014), Assoc. Professor of Political Science at Adelphi University Margaret Gray sheds light on the plight of farmworkers that supply beautiful, delicious locally grown fruits and vegetables, locally crafted cheeses, baked goods, and more to upscale eateries, thriving farmers’ markets, and ultimately our dinner plates.
As Gray makes clear by focusing on one of the country’s most celebrated local food hubs—New York’s scenic Hudson Valley--, this local bounty comes at a price. Family farms largely thrive because the overwhelming majority of farmhands are undocumented Latino workers, willing to put in long hours of hard manual labor for meager wages—typically $8 an hour, or less—and put up with hazardous conditions and unfair, paternalistic management.
“Improving workers’ conditions should be considered as important as protecting watersheds or shielding animals from pain and stress,” Margaret Gray contends. With LABOR AND THE LOCAVORE, she calls attention to the realities and responsibilities that come with eating local.

The concert will be co-hosted for the ninth year by Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise, acclaimed actors who have dedicated themselves to veterans’ causes and supporting our troops in active service. The live program airs Sunday, May 25th, 8:00-9:30 p.m. Eastern, before an audience of hundreds of thousands, millions more at home on PBS, and our troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network.
To talk about the 2014 National Memorial Day Concert,” North American Network is offering five- to six-minute telephone interviews with Gary Sinise. Interviews are being scheduled for Monday, May 19, from 10:00am to 12:00pm Eastern Time. To book an interview window, please call.

CHEF BRIAN MALARKEY - HERRINGBONE LA – WINEMASTERS
Nestled inside the swanky Mondrian Hotel, our newest Herringbone restaurant has a laid back coastal flare but stays true to the trendy West Hollywood vibe of the city. Brian Malarkey’s “Fish Meats Field” dining venue is quickly becoming one of the most popular restaurants in Los Angeles because of the innovative dishes made with the freshest ingredients from the ocean, ranch, and garden.
As you make your way to the dining room, you won’t help but notice the breathtaking views of the city. Our eclectic decor accentuates our love for small details and designs by Thomas Schoos. The custom designed communal tables are perfect for large groups or making new friends. Since we’re located in the sunshine state, we couldn’t imagine life without an outdoor patio bar to sip on our house infused cocktails like the “Jalaberry Strawpeno” while working on a California sun tan.
THE CALIFORNIA WINEMASTERS: is a perennial Wine Spectator Top 10 Charity Wine Auction set for May 17, 2014 at Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank. PHIL KEOGHAN - EMMY AWARD WINNING HOST OF THE AMAZING RACE - THE 24TH SEASON COMES TO AN EXCITING CONCLUSION
The 24th season of THE AMAZING RACE comes to an exciting conclusion, Sunday, May 18, 8-9 PM ET/PT. Chat with the Emmy Award winning Phil Keoghan about the Amazing All-Star season & preview the finale!
BIO: An Emmy award winning producer and host of The Amazing Race, Phil Keoghan, has experienced a life full of travel and adventure. He started traveling around the world at the age of two and has been globetrotting ever since. Serving as host and a producer of CBS’s multi Emmy Award-winning reality series, THE AMAZING RACE, Keoghan continues to travel at a pace few could match.
After surviving a near death experience at the age of 19, where he found himself lost at 120 feet inside a 22,000 ton ship wreck, Keoghan was prompted to write a list of things to do before he died. For more than 20 years, he has lived this, Life List, in front of a TV camera working in more than 100 countries as an actor, author, television host, producer, and cameraman.
Some of his adventures include having a five star meal on top of an erupting volcano; changing a light bulb on top of Verazano bridge; breaking an unofficial bungy jumping record with eight others; swimming from Asia to Europe across the Bosporus; and putting a golf ball across Scotland. Most recently, he rode his bike from Los Angeles to New York City to help raise awareness for the National MS Society. Keoghan filmed the grueling 3,500 mile adventure and turned it into a documentary film titled THE RIDE.
Phil’s challenging Life List evolved into his life philosophy and the title of his best selling book, No Opportunity Wasted, NOW, (Eight ways to create a list for the life you want). The book was later developed into an award winning television series produced in the US, Canada and New Zealand.
With a passion to help others get the most out of life, Keoghan is a regular motivational speaker at colleges and major corporations throughout North and South America, Asia, New Zealand and Australia.
DANIEL WINER - CEO OF JUICEPRESSO
Beyond it's sleek design, Juicepresso has the smallest footprint of any in-home slow juicer. Internally Juicepresso houses a powerful DC motor, which is why we guarantee it to last at least seven years with daily juicing. Other cold pressed juicers use AC motors which are larger and less powerful, leaving you with a bulky appliance on your countertop.
While other cold press juicers operate at 80 RPM the Juicepresso operates at an incredibly slow 40 RPM. Although juicing time remains the same as traditional speed juicers, your fruits and vegetables are pressed slower, providing maximum juice extraction. Juicepresso provides up to 40% more juice than loud, old-fashioned juicers and since pressed juice lasts up to three days in your fridge, you can juice less often.
Inside the clear plastic drum lies Juicepresso's greatest feature. It's patented three in one screw! Other cold press juicers have several internal parts. Juicepresso has one, making it easy to clean. Simply pull your three in one screw out of the drum, rinse and place in the dishwasher. It's that easy, and we've made it BPA free!
Juicepresso is a great addition to any kitchen. There is simply no better way for you to enjoy the many benefits of juicing in your home.
WHY COLD PRESSED: Cold press juicers operate at a very low speed, slowly squeezing juice out of fruits and vegetables. Cold press juicers or masticating juicers typically use an auger and strainer to squeeze and push juice out. Using the slow juicing or cold press juicing method, a slow juicer creates very little friction and no heat. This effectively retains all the enzymes and nutrients in fruits and vegetables, producing juice with no separation. Cold pressed juice does not oxidize quickly and can last for up to 72 hours in the refrigerator. The pulp that is produced is also much drier, meaning that the maximum amount of juice has been extracted from fruits and vegetables. Juicepresso Pulp can be used in many delicious recipes from baked goods to baby food!
Cold press juicers produce up to 40% more juice than high speed juicers. The machine essentially pays for itself. Traditional centrifugal juicers operate at high speed. A shredder disc or spinning blade is used to pulverize fruits and vegetables against a metal strainer, generating a force that separates the juice from the pulp. High speed creates friction and heat, which can destroy nutrients and enzymes from fruits and vegetables. The juice extracted from centrifugal juicers also separates and oxidizes much faster. This oxidation causes your juice to begin losing nutrients minutes after juicing. The pulp extracted is a lot wetter, yielding much less juice than a slow juicer.

BIO: World-class chef Olivier Rousselle, whose culinary experience spans over three continents, has created exquisite lunch and dinner menus featuring seasonal California fare with a fresh French twist for Bel Air fine dining at On Sunset Restaurant.
Executive Chef Olivier Rousselle originally hails from Paris, and his family ties are rooted in Gascony located in the Bordeaux region of the country. His formal culinary studies began at the ripe age of 16 in Paris with an externship in Gascony under the tutorship of famed chefs Bernard Ramouneda and Andre Daguin. Upon graduation, he was immersed in the fast paced environment of a traditional French Brasserie in Paris, where he learned to love the art of travel.
London was his next culinary adventure destination where he worked alongside chefs Keith Podmore and Keith Stanley, both from the prestigious Academy of Culinary Arts. While working with Podmore, Rousselle sharpened his skills in some of the most prestigious gentleman’s clubs in London, where he often cooked for Prince Charles, the Queen Mother and other members of the Royal Family. Another continent was tugging at his chef’s coat, and soon Rousselle moved to South Africa’s wine country where he helped transform “La Couronne” Hotel and Winery to world class status along with award-winning chef, Peter Goffe-Wood.
After that successful experience, Rousselle decided to move to California to explore the phenomenon of ‘farm fresh’ cuisine and to experience the culinary scene in the U.S. Prior to joining On Sunset Restaurant, Rousselle was the executive chef at Michael’s in Santa Monica for four years.

5/14 LISA CAREY, THE CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL, EXECUTIVE CHEF CHANG SIVILAY, THE STANDARD HOTEL, CALIFORNIA WINEMASTERS
LISA CAREY - THE CALIFORNIA STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL (MAY 17-18)
The delicious heart shaped fruit is the main ingredient of celebration with the 2014 California Strawberry Festival getting underway the weekend of May 17 and 18, 2014 at Strawberry Meadows of College Park in Oxnard (3250 S. Rose Avenue). Ranking among the top Festivals in the entire nation, the fruitful fete boasts lip-smacking strawberries every way imaginable, featuring all day fun for the entire family with concert performances, more than 200 Fine Arts & Crafts booths, the Strawberry Promenade with celebrity cooking demonstrations, Strawberryland For Kids featuring rides and attractions, gooey contests, special appearances, and more, on 15 scenic acres of parkland.
An estimated 1.5 million strawberries will be consumed over the weekend. With 50 food booths where berries abound, the fruit that wears its seeds on the outside is served in a bevy of berry delicious forms. If you haven’t had strawberry pizza alongside a strawberry beer, you haven’t been to the Festival. Or perhaps the strawberry nachos are more you style. Oh, did we mention strawberry funnel cake, strawberry crepes, chocolate dipped strawberries, fried strawberries, the “build your own” strawberry shortcake tent, or even strawberry popcorn?
Indulge guilt free, because with each bite the non-profit food booths reap 100% of sales for their causes. The formula has proven to be a fruitful enterprise. Over the past three decades more than $4 million dollars has benefitted more than 40 southland charities. Serving up wholesome family fun, where else can you throw berries at your best friend in the Tart Toss Contest, or eat a strawberry pie by literally putting your face in it at the Pie Eating Contest, or pile on the fixings in the Strawberry Shortcake Build-Off Contest?
General admission is $12, seniors 62+ are $8 and children ages 5-12 are $5. Kids 4 and under are free. Active military and dependents with ID are $8. Hours are 10:00a.m. to 6:30p.m. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.strawberry-fest.org. The California Strawberry Festival information line is 1 888 288-9242.
The U.S. Census reports that nearly four million babies will be born this year. By eating strawberries, expectant mothers consume folic acid, an important B vitamin that helps prevent neutral tube birth defects such as spina bifida. Eight strawberries have more vitamin C than a cup of orange juice.
