BIO:
Larry Manetti started acting in his hometown of Chicago. After studying acting with the Ted List Theater Players, Larry drove to Los Angeles in 1972. Larry landed an agent and was sent to Universal Studios to audition for an opening as a contract player. Luck was on his side. Jack Webb was casting a new series for NBC called The Chase. Larry played a young detective. After attending acting school at Sal Dano's at night and doing bit parts by day, he scored. Baa Baa Black Sheep was being produced and cast at Universal, and the now famous writer Stephen J. Cannell was the executive producer and the role was a natural for Larry. He was cast as a cocky, hot shot pilot named Bobby Boyle. The show was a big hit for NBC but was cancelled within two years. Because the network was so impressed with Larry's on-screen presence, they cast him in a new series called The Duke. Bad luck! The Duke was cancelled in one year. Larry was back to playing whatever Universal told him to. Hoping to catch lighting in a jar, along came Magnum, P.I. and the role of Rick. This was his elevator...the show became a mega-hit for 8 years. Since Magnum, P.I., Larry has done co-starring roles in 25 feature films and guest starred on many hot TV shows. Larry is the author of a book titled Aloha Magnum. As for the future ... just follow his jet stream!
Be sure to tune into Larry's radio show every Tuesday at 4pm PT on CRN!

HAILEY TREFETHEN - TREFETHEN FAMILY VINEYARDS REOPENS TO VISITORS POST-EARTHQUAKE
The Trefethen family announces that the winery is now welcoming visitors for wine tasting in its temporary facility. The winery is open for the first time since the August 24th Napa-centered earthquake that severely damaged the historic 19th century winery that served as the visitor center and retail sales operations. A tented pavilion overlooking the estate’s vineyards will operate daily from 10am to 4:30pm by appointment. Appointments can be made by calling 866.895.7696. Or, guests can stop by to see if on the spot appointments may be made if space is available.
The pavilion has the feel of an intimate garden party with walls surrounded by arched windows and French doors to take advantage of the vineyard views and oversized topiaries, garden tables and a stone fountain complete the theme.
Janet Trefethen said, “We wanted to make this temporary operation as welcoming as we could. It feels festive which is really what we wanted to convey—a celebration of great wine amidst the beautiful vineyards.”
The old winery, which is on the National Register of Historic Places, will be out of commission for some time as the restoration work begins. Trefethen continued, “There’s a lot of work to be done to get the old building back to her glory, but we are up for the challenge. It’s such an iconic part of our Napa Valley heritage.”
Winemaking facilities long-ago moved to modern production facilities on property which were unaffected by the quake and crush continued uninterrupted.
FAMILY STORY:
It was never clear how this adventure was going to turn out. In the late 60’s when my family started to grow wine grapes in Napa Valley, there was no one to show them the way. There was plenty of advice, to be sure, but in truth no one had started a successful Napa vineyard since Prohibition. They were, in a word, crazy.
Their lunacy was infectious, however, and a few other enterprising souls joined the gambit: Tony Baldini, our first viticulturist; David Whitehouse, our first “real” winemaker; Richard DeGarmo, Mr. fix-it; Mary Ware, queen of the office and everyone’s schedule. I grew up with them and consider them all family. A shared passion brought them to us, and my parents received them with open arms. They settled into their respective posts, not as hired hands, but as equals in a shared endeavor. As I settle into my own role in the family business, I find this remarkable dynamic preserved and count myself blessed to spend my days working with old and new friends that quickly feel like family.
The land focuses our energies, as it always has, challenging us to understand its soils, the vines that grow in them, and the way fog drifts through the rows in the morning. It is an eternal learning process – each question answered reveals another be asked – but it’s a journey we love to take with each and every vintage. It also defines us and the wines we make, providing the vital essence of every bottle that bears our name. Decisions made in the vineyard and cellar not only guide the expression of the land, but affect the very soul of the wine. For this reason, we have always committed ourselves to estate production, adamant that we should be the ones growing the grapes and turning them into wine. Our passion requires it.
One Family. One Estate. One Passion. This is who we are.

Richard Schlesinger and 48 HOURS investigate the murder of John McCabe and his family’s more than 40 year quest to find out what really happened to their son in “The Pact,” to be broadcast Oct. 25, 2014 (10:00 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
“I don’t think I’ve had a whole night’s sleep since it happened,” Evelyn McCabe tells 48 HOURS. Evelyn waited up for John’s return on that fateful night in 1969. At midnight she got in her car and rode down the darkened streets screaming out his name. “No John,” says Evelyn, “I began praying at that point.”
The day after John McCabe should have been back in his Tewksbury, Massachusetts home, three young kids cutting through a vacant lot in the neighboring city of Lowell, found his body. He’d been tied up and his mouth and eyes taped over.
Police launched a massive investigation and talked to dozens of teenagers. From the beginning there were suspicions that John’s schoolmates may be involved. One of them, Walter Shelley, was driving around that night in a car that matched the description of a car spotted near the crime scene. Shelley denied having anything to do with John’s death. There was no definitive forensic evidence and no corroborating witnesses, so the case went cold. Years turned into decades without answers, but the family never lost hope. McCabe’s father, Bill, began documenting his son’s life in a notebook. Bill and Evelyn also kept the heat on police to keep looking for their son’s killer.
Can investigators solve the case that haunted the McCabe family for so long?

SHERATON MAUI RESORT AND SPA LAUNCHES WIKIGRINDS AN IN-ROOM DINING, TO-GO CONCEPT!
Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa has launched a new dining concept called WikiGrinds. WikiGrinds, founded on the idea of “good things from our kitchen, bundled to-go for your convenience” brings the in-room dining menu created by award-winning chef Raymond Nicasio to the entire Kannapali community. WikiGrinds offers a wide variety of cuisine including local style food such as the Wiki Bento Combo, and complete 3-course dinners such as the Paniolo BBQ meal which includes a half rack of Hawaiian style baby back pork ribs, corn on the cob, bbq baked beans, dessert and more, as well as an ala carte menu.
“We launched this dining concept realizing how difficult grabbing food to-go can be in Kaanapali. Alongside the many resorts, there are numerous condominium properties here in the Kaanapali area creating a great demand. With a simple yet delicious menu and an easy drive through area at our Aloha Landing, WikiGrinds really fills a special niche,” explains Tets Yamazaki, General Manager of the Sheraton Maui Resort & Spa. “It’s a great option for beachgoers wrapping up a day in the sand and sun to grab dinner to-go on their way back to the condo,” continues Yamazaki.
WikiGrinds is available daily between 5:30pm and 10:00pm. Full menu is available online at www.sheraton-maui.com/wikigrinds. Please call (808) 662-8052 to place an order for pick up.

10/21 HEATHER MURAN, SAN LUIS OBISPO WINE COUNTRY ASSOCIATION, HARVEST ON THE COAST
HEATHER MURAN, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SAN LUIS OBISPO WINE COUNTRY ASSOCIATION - HARVEST ON THE COAST, NOVEMBER 7-9, 2014
Celebrating the pronounced coastal climate that makes the region’s wines so distinctive, the San Luis Obispo (SLO) Wine Country Association hosts its 24th annual “Harvest on The Coast” extravaganza on November 7 – 9, 2014.
This series of wine and food events includes a collaborative winemaker dinner on November 7; winery tasting room open houses on November 9; and the main event—an open-air, ocean-view Grand Tasting and Wine Auction on November 8 at the Avila Beach Golf Resort from noon to 3 p.m. ($85 / $95 for 11 a.m. early entry).
GRAND TASTING & AUCTION – November 8
Attendees at the Grand Tasting and Wine Auction enjoy all-inclusive wine tastings provided by the winemakers of SLO Wine Country; cuisine by more than two dozen local chefs and artisan food producers; and live music by Cuesta Ridge, a local band beloved for its strains of acoustic Americana with bluegrass flavor. Along with all of this comes a winemaker-hosted wine and lifestyle auction featuring rare wines, culinary treats and SLO Wine Country destination experiences. (See examples of exciting auction items below).
“The winemakers and growers are going all out to provide some incredible auction items,” said Heather Muran, Executive Director of SLO Wine Country. “As always, it’s going to be raucous and fun.”
She adds that one of the more popular live-auction lots is called “fund a need,” where auction monies benefit a local cause. This year’s chosen non-profit is the Family Care Network, a family services provider for more than 1,400 families throughout San Luis Obispo and Santa Barbara counties.
Meanwhile, SLO Wine Country has teamed up with the Avila Beach Tourism Alliance to offer a $20 per ticket discount off the Saturday Grand Tasting for attendees booking their stay in Avila Beach. For information and tickets, visit www.slowine.com or contact (805) 541-5868, info@slowine.com. A “designated driver” ticket is also available for $30.
CRAFTED ON THE COAST – November 7
Other weekend events include “Crafted on the Coast,” ($120), a collaborative winemaker dinner happening at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa on Friday, November 7 at 5:30 p.m. The evening includes a patio reception; wines from nine different winemakers; plus a multi-course “Secret Mystery” dining experience crafted by Sycamore’s own Chef Gregg Wangard. Attendees are also invited to enjoy discount accommodations at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa.
“GO COASTAL” OPEN HOUSES – November 9

This is a chance to visit local tasting rooms; enjoy light bites and live entertainment; and take advantage of wine discounts including the “Six-Pack Sampler Program,” where wineries offer a group of six wines at a special event price.

LARRY MANETTI – ACTOR, AUTHOR AND RADIO PERSONALITY - QVC APPEARANCE NEXT WEEK
Larry will be on QVC this Wednesday 10/22/14 at 1pm PT | 4pm ET featuring meatballs

10/14 KELLIE PICKLER, VEGGIETALES, EMMA SWAIN, ST. SUPREY
COUNTRY MUSIC STAR KELLIE PICKLER STARS IN “VEGGIETALES: BEAUTY AND THE BEET”
Beauty and the Beet Puts a Tune-Filled, All-Veggie Spin on a Classic Fairy Tale Starring Country Superstar Kellie Pickler
Take the timeless and enchanting story of “Beauty and the Beast,” toss with the unique flavors of VeggieTales and blend in the sweet voice of country music superstar Kellie Pickler – and the result is BEAUTY AND THE BEET, a brand-new VeggieTales musical that premieres Oct. 14 exclusively on DVD and digital download.
Pickler (American Idol, Dancing With the Stars) brings her unmistakable voice to the role of Mirabelle, a sweet-potato singer whose family band is on the brink of superstardom. BEAUTY AND THE BEET blends the irresistible charm and appeal of VeggieTales with a heartfelt message about the importance of unconditional love.
A BEAUTY AND THE BEET companion CD, featuring 10 brand-new songs – including an all-veggie rendition of the classic Christmas carol Deck the Halls – will also be available in stores and on iTunes to coincide with the release of the movie on Oct. 14.
Mirabelle’s kindness extends to Finnegan J. Beet, the bitter and lonely owner of a rundown mountaintop resort where Mirabelle’s family breaks down en route to their biggest concert ever. Matching the Beet’s heartless actions with her own genuinely sweet nature, Mirabelle proves that just as God loves us all whether we deserve it or not, unconditional love is its own reward.
In addition to Mirabelle and Mr. Beet, the zesty supporting cast includes Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber, Jimmy the Gourd, the French Peas and a host of other favorite veggies.
Both the DVD and the CD also include Mac and Cheese, a giddy new “Silly Songs With Larry” segment in which Larry the Cucumber reveals the surprising and heretofore untold history of his family’s unexpected contributions to Italian cuisine.
BEAUTY AND THE BEET is just the start of the fun in store this fall for VeggieTales fans, because Bob the Tomato, Larry the Cucumber and their friends will also star in a brand-new Netflix original series, VeggieTales In the House, which premieres Thanksgiving weekend exclusively on the streaming platform.

BIO
George Duran is an international chef and entertainer. Author of Take This Dish and Twist it, known for his Food Network show Ham on the Street and most recently host of TLC’s Ultimate Cake Off. He’s appeared as guests on the Dr. Oz Show, NBC Today Show, CBS This Morning, The Wendy Williams Show, The Nate Berkus Show and many others.
Born and raised by Armenian parents in Caracas, Venezuela, George’s diverse background helped him succeed at NYU as the host of the award winning radio talk show, HYE Time Radio.
Post college, Duran continued to follow his Radio Muse, working as an on-air personality for comedy segments at WPLJ-FM in New York. By 2000, Duran told his Radio Muse he’d like to “take a break” and after hosting on the Latin music television station HTV he moved to Paris, France to study French cuisine at the Ecole Superieure de Cuisine Francaise, Groupe Ferrandi. Six months into his studies created and hosted in French a culinary show called Pop Cuisine on France’s Cuisine TV network. His unpretentious, quirky culinary style was a hit—garnering Pop Cuisine a nomination for a 7 d’Or (French Emmy) for Best Cable Show.
In 2005, Duran returned to New York, taking his career as a TV Chef to the next level—creating and hosting Food Network’s popular Ham on the Street. The program showcased George’s keen interviewing and culinary skills—and determined once and for all that you can’t fry a fudge-cicle.
In February 2007, Duran expanded his presence on Food Network, hosting The Secret Life of…, a light hearted exploration of the history of the foods we love. In October, 2008, George’s first book, Take This Dish and Twist It hit bookstore shelves. As colorful and funny as the chef himself, Duran’s book is packed with highly useful tips revealing his delectably unexpected take on comfort food. During this period, Duran partnered up with the number 1 Hispanic cookware company, IMUSA as its spokesperson and shortly afterwards with Hunt’s Tomatoes. The enormous success of both campaigns resulted in the expansion of George’s role with both companies including all ConAgra products on a national and Hispanic stage. Most recently he has hosted on HSN for kitchenware products by IMUSA and T-fal.
In 2010 George was asked to join TLC’s prime time line-up by hosting Ultimate Cake Off where the nation’s top cake artists compete against each other to build the ultimate cake. Duran’s interests lie in French, Armenian and South American cuisines as well as cinematography and video editing. He currently lives in Long Island City, NY.

TOP CHEF CONTESTANT MALIKA AMEEN - HOW “FAIR TRADE USA” IS PROTECTING YOUR FOOD
Being fair is easy—it’s as simple as a cup of coffee, a bar of chocolate, a spoonful of sugar, and now, even a t-shirt. It’s better for you, better for farmers, and better for the planet.
Former Top Chef: Just Desserts Contestant and Chef Malika Ameen uses Fair Trade Certified ingredients year round, and this October--which is also Fair Trade Month--she shares how good practices and good products really do go hand in hand.

10/06 ANNA BULLETT, COOKING LIGHT MAGAZINE, DAMON MIELE, WORLD OF PINOT NOIR
ANNA BULLETT - EXECUTIVE CHEF, COOKING LIGHT MAGAZINE- OCTOBER IS NATIONAL APPLE MONTH
It’s fall harvest season, and we all know what that means. Back to school…and apples!
As the weather gets crisp and the crispness of apples signals the sweet, fleeting passage of fall, it’s time to get cooking. Almost a dozen apple varieties will be available soon in your grocery store—a bumper crop to cook with—and apples are a great cooking fruit.
Cooking Light’s Anna Bullett, MS, RD, has some suggestions to turn fall’s best fruit into anything you can imagine, matching varieties to recipes designed to unlock the unique charm of each fruit—just in time for National Apple Month! For instance, Granny Smiths are great for pies, Pink Ladies make delicious applesauce, and Fujis are delicious raw with a creamy cheese (a perfect after-school snack!).
Anna is certainly no stranger to being clever and crafty in the kitchen. She’s constantly reworking recipes to make them healthier and more family-friendly, and this season’s bounty of apples—farmers predict almost 264-million bushels will be hand-picked this year!—is no match for her culinary prowess.
About Anna Bullett, MS, RD:
