What's Cookin' Today Hour TWO:

We're Talking with Jon Phillips of Inspiration Winery

Established in 2002, Inspiration Vineyards and Winery produces approximately 1000 cases annually, spread among seven different wines. Their mission is to produce high quality, food friendly wines at an affordable price for the consumer; using the finest quality grapes grown in an appropriate terroir, from appellations that are known and respected.

Although Jon formally started working in the wine industry in 1986 as a wine educator for the Mirassou winery in San Jose, his interest in wine was more deeply rooted as a result of the vineyards that were owned and farmed by his Great Grandfather John Schubert, who moved to San Martin, California from his native home in Czeckslovakia in the early 1900’s

After teaching wine education independently for over 15 years on the San Francisco Peninsula, including the development of a wine education program for the College of San Mateo, Jon and his wife Barbara followed their dreams by purchasing a six acre Russian River Valley vineyard property in 2001 and moving to Sonoma County to start their own winery - Jon’s formal education is a BS in Marketing with a minor concentration in Computer Science gaining knowledge about wine production from attending the UC Davis Extension Enology and Viticulture program. In 1999, Jon began producing wine, starting with a single barrel of Contra Costa Zinfandel, using grapes purchased from Rosenblum Cellars.
