MICHAEL HORN BROADCASTING LIVE FROM TELLURIDE COLORADO AT NEW SHERIDAN HOTEL WITH...

  • BEN JACKSON - OUR UNOFFICIAL TELLURIDE HISTORIAN
  • TOM WATKINSON - DIRECTOR OF COMMUNICATIONS, TELLURIDE TOURISM BOARD
  • RAY FARNSWORTH - GENERAL MANAGER,  THE NEW SHERIDAN HOTEL
  • ASHLEY BOLING - HISTORICAL TOURS OF TELLURIDE

THE DESTINATION
Two Towns. One Amazing Experience.
It is a place of legend, nestled at the end of a lush canyon and surrounded by some of Colorado’s most rugged peaks. Nowhere else in the country, or perhaps the world, does such a place exist.  To some, we are known for incredible alpine skiing. To others, summers full of cultural events and endless outdoor activities.  By everyone, we are embraced for our authentic mountain character, unpretentious attitude, and celebration of four seasons of adventure in the most beautiful spot of the Rocky Mountain high country.

TELLURIDE
Telluride is tucked into a box canyon surrounded by 13,000 and 14,000-foot peaks. The town of Telluride is just eight blocks wide and twelve blocks long. Because of its significant role in the history of the American West, the core area of Telluride was designated a National Historic Landmark District in 1964. This listing is the highest level of historic status available from the United States Secretary of the Interior. These sites are so special that they are eligible for consideration to become national parks. With the town's colorful Victorian-era homes, clapboard storefronts, boutiques, art galleries, gourmet restaurants, historic buildings and more, Telluride is a delight to explore. Our citizens are committed to preserving Telluride's historically significant architecture, open space, traditional design elements and, most of all, Telluride’s small-town mountain lifestyle.

MOUNTAIN VILLAGE
Mountain Village is perched above the valley floor at 9,500 feet, providing access to the Telluride Ski Resort and Uncompahgre National Forest. The Town of Mountain Village was founded in 1987 and includes approximately 2,100 acres of rolling aspen and spruce-covered mountainsides. A vision of alpine elegance, this European-style village tempts guests with the best of everything in the Telluride region. Coming into its own as a leading community, Mountain Village embraces green practices and sustainable growth in its everyday operations.

The two towns are connected by a free, scenic gondola—the only transportation system of its kind in North America. The 13-minute ride is a daily event for residents and visitors alike. Exploring both Telluride and Mountain Village is easy with the convenience of the gondola.

THE GONDOLA
The towns of Telluride and Mountain Village are linked by a spectacular, 13-minute ride on a free gondola—the first and only free public transportation system of its kind in the United States. This popular scenic attraction provides access to hiking and biking trails in the summer and the ski slopes in the winter. Passengers can load the gondola in either Mountain Village or Telluride and ride to the midway point (Station St. Sophia from which hiking, biking and ski trails are accessed) and then continue on to the other side.

Once you discover this unique mountain mode of travel, you'll find a front row seat to view Mother Nature from 10,500 feet. The ride from Telluride to Station San Sophia has an elevation change of 1,750 feet; the ride from Station San Sophia to Mountain Village has a 960-foot conversion. The gondola runs daily from 7 a.m. to midnight during summer and winter. On select event dates, extended hours may be in place. The gondola closes for a short duration in the late spring and fall for maintenance and other operational needs.

The gondola has three primary stations where you can board and unload:

  • Station Telluride (Oak Street) – access to Telluride
  • Station St. Sophia (mid-mountain stop) – access to Allred’s Restaurant & Bar, The Ridge Club and ski resort trails and runs
  • Station Mountain Village – access to Mountain Village

Just across from Station Mountain Village, a shorter gondola stretch connects to Station Village Parking, where the free parking garage, Town Hall and the Mountain Market are located. Handicap-accessible cabins are available, as well as pet cabins for well-behaved animals on leashes. Please ask a gondola attendant for help boarding; they can slow down the cabins for those with strollers, wheel chairs, etc.

In the winter, ski and snowboard racks are mounted on the exterior of cabins, and gondola attendants help load equipment.  In the summer, bike racks are mounted on the exterior of the cabins, and gondola attendants help load bikes.

THE NEW SHERIDAN HOTEL IN TELLURIDE COLORADO
During the San Juan Mountain gold rush, the smell of worn leather and the sounds of hard labor filled the air of Telluride. As precious metals were unearthed, more prospectors and profiteers moved to the area. The growing mining town of Telluride needed boarding for its passers-by and thus the Sheridan Hotel was constructed in 1891.

Destroyed by fire in 1894, the New Sheridan was built, this time in brick, in 1895. As decades passed and Telluride's riches changed from gold to powdery snow, the New Sheridan Hotel evolved as well. Recently renovated with 26 handsome rooms, the New Sheridan is Telluride's newest oldest hotel.

Home to the town's oldest bar, the Historic New Sheridan Bar, a world-renowned restaurant, the Chop House. The New Sheridan has raised impeccable quality and service to a new level. Offering rich tradition paired with historic ambience, we invite you to discover the New Sheridan.

HOTEL STORY:
This is the only historic Telluride hotel and one of the few of Colorado's historic hotels dating from the mining days. Opened in 1891, just four years after Telluride was founded, the New Sheridan Hotel has been welcoming guests for over 100 years in its rebuilt in 1895 form.

Historic Hotels in Colorado
There was and is here in Telluride just one of the Telluride Colorado historic hotels - the New Sheridan. Built in 1895, this three-story hotel, one of Colorado's historic hotels, lies in the shadow of the San Juan Mountains, and is located right in the heart of town.

Established in 1891, when Telluride was only four years old, the original hotel was a three-story wood-frame structure built with the riches from the gold and silver strikes. This first structure was destroyed in 1894 by a fire and rebuilt a year later in brick.

"It has an authentic historic quality that’s impossible to fake." Completely renovated in 2008, with designs by the British designer, Nina Campbell retaining and highlighting the history with fine Victorian style furnishings, details, fabrics, papers, and moldings. Throughout, she has set archival photos of the silver and gold miners.

The menu at the Chop House restaurant - the best in Telluride in much of the town's opinion. The Historic New Sheridan Bar has a carved mahogany bar, room dividers with beveled and lead glass panels, and light fixtures and brass chandeliers dating from the original in 1895 with additions from the 1930s.

CELEBRITY NUTRITIONIST KERI GLASSMAN - SHARES TIPS TO ENCOURAGE HEART HEALTHY LIVING

You know how you always see on Instagram “summer bodies are made in winter?” Well, healthy hearts are made NOW.

Celebrity Nutritionist, Keri Glassman is here during heart health month. She takes a holistic approach to health – so it’s no surprise that her tips to encourage heart healthy living are as much about lifestyle as they are exercise and diet.

HERE IS A SNEAK PEEK OF SOME OF THE TIPS KERI WILL CHAT ABOUT:
1.     Fill your Body with Heart Healthy Foods: Clients often come to me knowing what not to eat, but what SHOULD you eat for a healthier heart? Whole real foods especially those high in fiber, healthy fats, and loads of veggies, especially greens and consider add a serving of CocoaVia® cocoa extract supplement to your daily regime. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated that the cocoa flavanols in CocoaVia® supplement promote healthy blood flow from head to toe†.
2.     Take Stock in your Stock:  Pull together the information you need to evaluate if you’re at risk for cardiovascular disease. You should have current lab work that includes your cholesterol information. Have your blood pressure taken. Dig into your family history. Evaluate your alcohol consumption and of course, QUIT smoking if you smoke.
3.     Lose those final 5: Carrying around extra pounds makes the heart less efficient, more lethargic and compromises its ability to work. Losing weight — as few as 10 pounds — can reduce cholesterol levels, decrease blood pressure, decrease the risk of heart attack and often reduces the need for medications.
Please let me know if you are interested in chatting with Keri and I’ll be happy to coordinate!

02/24 SUSAN ZIRINSKY, 48 HOURS, STEVE EVANS, THE MOVIE GUY

SUSAN ZIRINSKY - EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, 48 HOURS

“48 HOURS” INVESTIGATES THE HORRORS OF STALKING AND HOW CBS’ “NCIS” STAR PAULEY PERRETTE IS FIGHTING TO CHANGE THE LAWS TO PROTECT VICTIMS

“STALKED” WILL BE BROADCAST SATURDAY, FEB. 25 (9:00-11:00 PM ET/PT)

Erin Moriarty and 48 HOURS investigate multiple terrifying cases of stalking and the efforts driven by Pauley Perrette, star of CBS’ NCIS, to change laws that she says are outdated or ineffective, in “Stalked,” a two-hour special to be broadcast Saturday, Feb. 25 (9:00-11:00 PM ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Last year, singer Christina Grimmie was shot dead by an obsessed fan she didn’t know was stalking her online. He showed up at an Orlando, Fla., concert armed with two handguns and pulled the trigger. Grimmie’s death “should be a huge wake-up call,” says Perrette, who has been stalked for more than a decade. “Anyone watching this at any time could suddenly become a victim of a stalker.”

There are more than 7.5 million cases of stalking reported each year, according to the Centers for Disease Control. 48 HOURS: “Stalked” exposes the extreme, often debilitating emotional toll that being stalked has had on Perrette and others, including a lawyer, a single mother and an internet celebrity. They explain vividly, through intimate interviews, what it feels like to be targeted and how being stalked made their lives feel smaller.

Moriarty also takes viewers inside her efforts to talk with Justin Massler, a serial stalker with diagnosed mental illness, who was arrested in 2010 for stalking President Donald Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, and who previously targeted the Kardashians. In a gripping interview with Moriarty, Massler displays behavior that veers between sane and pure rage.

“For me, being stalked is similar to having your head held under water,” says Lenora Claire, who has been stalked by Massler for nearly six years. “You can’t breathe. You can’t scream ‘cause no one’s going to hear you. And you’re just – you’re waiting for it to be over.”

Claire says she lives in constant fear that Massler could “rape me, kidnap me, kill me, gas me, go after my friends, go after my family. It’s just crept into every part of my life.” Stalking is often a silent crime with victims frequently afraid to speak out, fearing doing so will further enrage their stalker, something Perrette knows well.

“I’m so scared sitting here talking about it,” Perrette tells Moriarty. “It puts the same fear into every victim. But we can’t keep this a secret. We have to be courageous. We have to get these laws changed. I’m here for other victims. I’m here for the next victim.”

Perrette adds that most people think only celebrities are stalked because that’s what they see in the news. “But people are stalked every day, in every town in America,” she tells Moriarty. Perrette says she was completely terrorized, and when she reached out for help, she found law enforcement was slow to take her seriously.

“I was told by a police officer once that I should have stayed and let my stalker break my arms so then they would have something to prosecute,” Perrette tells Moriarty. “And at the root of it all is that people do not take stalking seriously.”

The experience put Perrette on a path to seek help for future stalking victims by working to get laws changed and to give police more ways to stop the harassment. She’s banded together with other victims and is actively meeting with congressional representatives to change the laws and raise awareness within law enforcement.

“The first victimization is being stalked and terrorized, and the second victimization is that the system does not work for stalking victims,” Perrette says.
“You never know who’s watching you,” says California Deputy District Attorney Wendy Segall. “And you don’t know who’s watching you over the internet. You’re out there in a way that you never were before.”

TODD HOLLANDER - MANAGING DIRECTOR AND HEAD OF BUSINESS BANKING FOR UNION BANK

UNION BANK’S SMALL BUSINESS ECONOMIC SURVEY FINDS ENTREPRENEURS MORE OPTIMISTIC

Most West Coast Small Business Owners are Optimistic that the National Economy is headed in the Right Direction; an 11-Point Jump from Previous Survey

Small business owners are significantly more confident about the national economy, according to results from the Union Bank annual Small Business Economic Survey released today. The 18th annual survey also found that hiring is on the rise, with more business owners planning to offer permanent full-time positions in 2017 while interest in contractors and temporary positions wanes.

Union Bank conducted the survey from Dec. 12, 2016 to Jan. 3, 2017, compiling results from nearly 700 small business owners in California, Oregon, and Washington State. The previous Small Business Economic Survey was conducted in January 2016.

Overall, 53 percent of respondents said the national economy is headed in the right direction, a significant reversal from January 2016 when a majority (58%) believed the economy was headed in the wrong direction. More than half of respondents (57%) also believe the economic outlook at the state and local levels has improved versus 49 percent in January 2016. However, 62 percent of survey participants said the United States, as an entity, is headed in the wrong direction. This reflects a five percentage point increase from January 2016.

Todd Hollander is available to you and your listeners to discuss the findings from the bank’s latest small business economic survey, among the longest-running surveys in the industry, and to help people understand the needs of small business owners.  Todd can also speak about the small business industry in general, and what Union Bank is doing to support small businesses.

02/16 MCKAY JENKINS, FOOD FIGHT: GMOS AND THE FUTURE OF THE AMERICAN DIET, HARLEM GLOBETROTTERS ROOKIE HOOPS GREEN

ENVIRONMENTAL WRITER MCKAY JENKINS - AUTHOR OF  FOOD FIGHT: GMOS AND THE FUTURE OF THE AMERICAN DIET

ARE GMOS REALLY THAT BAD?
A prominent environmental journalist takes a fresh look at what they actually mean for our food system and for us.

In the past two decades, GMOs have come to dominate the American diet. Advocates hail them as the future of food, an enhanced method of crop breeding that can help feed an ever-increasing global population and adapt to a rapidly changing environment. Critics, meanwhile, call for their banishment, insisting GMOs were designed by overeager scientists and greedy corporations to bolster an industrial food system that forces us to rely on cheap, unhealthy, processed food so they can turn an easy profit. In response, health-conscious brands such as Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods have started boasting that they are “GMO-free,” and companies like Monsanto have become villains in the eyes of average consumers.

Where can we turn for the truth? Are GMOs an astounding scientific breakthrough destined to end world hunger? Or are they simply a way for giant companies to control a problematic food system? And what will the next four years hold for food policy?

In FOOD FIGHT: GMOs AND THE FUTURE OF THE AMERICAN DIET, environmental writer McKay Jenkins travels across the U.S. - from the Monsanto headquarters in St. Louis to the papaya fields of Hawaii to a family farm in the Chesapeake Bay that grows grapes and tomatoes for local vegetable markets alongside GMO corn and soybeans—to get to the bottom of the GMO debate.

What he discovers is that the GMO controversy is far more complex than meets the eye—there are many famers, scientists, and consumers with stakes in the GMO game, and each has a strong opinion about why their stance is the correct one. Jenkins paints a complex picture of the role that GMOs necessarily play in the industrial food system, with shocking revelations on both sides of the debate, with realities like:

•         Most GMOs can be found in packaged processed foods, rather than fresh produce—you’re more likely to have GMO corn in your cereal than on the cob.
•         A Hawaiian-born scientist created a GM papaya seed that saved the livelihoods of thousands of Hawaiian papaya farmers in the late 1990s.
•         Many genetically modified (GM) crops are designed to be sprayed with hundreds of millions of pounds of insecticides and herbicides each planting season.
•         Samples taken from the air around a middle school in Kauai, Hawaii contained traces of five pesticides including DDT, which has been banned in the U.S. for forty years.

This is not, however, a fearmongering book that leaves readers with a list of all the issues in the food system without any real solutions. Rather, FOOD FIGHT is both an intriguing piece of investigative journalism and a practical, nuanced guide to help consumers make more informed choices about what they eat. Jenkins includes opinions and stories from both sides of the aisle, including those who hover around the middle—scientists and farmers who think that GMOs are an important part of the solution to the issue of food security, but not the entire solution in itself.

FOOD FIGHT offers a fascinating, informative and much-needed look into how GMOs factor into our modern food scene and impact our health—from the fields to the grocery store shelves to your dinner table.

02/14 SALLY JAMES, TALKS OYSTERS AND ROMANCE, JOHN NEYLAND, VALENTINE’S DAY

SALLY JAMES -  AUTHOR, EDUCATOR, CHEF AND RADIO HOST - TALKS OYSTERS AND ROMANCE

IN LOVE WITH OYSTERS
Alluring Recipes and Tips for Valentine’s Day featuring Sequim Bay Oysters

Valentine’s Day approaches, and there’s probably no better known food for love than succulent oysters. Not only renowned as an aphrodisiac, these divine mollusks are just plain sexy - their succulent texture, briny flavor and even the way we enjoy them.

Jamestown Seafood celebrates the day with three romance-inducing recipes for you to prepare lovingly at home, and also some tips from local chefs on how they’ll be serving the delicious Sequim Bay Jades and Blue Opal Oysters. Oysters have always been linked with love. When Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, sprang forth from the sea on an oyster shell and promptly gave birth to Eros, the wordaphrodisiac was born. The 18 th Century lover Casanova also used to start a meal eating 50 oysters.

Scientists have worked for years to find the reason. Is it the zinc, the amino acids that trigger sex hormones, or just their silky sumptuous texture? Sequim Bay Oysters are the new kid on the block, farmed sustainably in pristine waters just before the entrance to Puget Sound. And unlike many farmed seafood, farmed oysters contribute to the environment as well as your health.

Chef Josh Baar of Kokopelli Grill in Port Angeles is particularly fond of the Blue Opals which are tumble- farmed. “I love the smaller Blue Opals particularly, their delicate and sweet flavor has such a clean and brilliant brininess, tasting of the fresh ocean”, he beams. His favorite way to serve them is with a lime granita which they make in house using juice, zest, and a splash of vodka to brighten, finished with a scattering of cilantro and jalapeno (jalapenos are also considered an aphrodisiac).

For more romantic occasions like Valentine’s, he loves a classic French style service, with Gruyere, shallots, cream and panko, gently melted over the oyster in the shell in the oven until golden and silky and slightly crisped at the edges. He arranges the oysters on salt dotted with cloves and juniper berries before baking, the aromas permeating the room with an exotic aura to heighten the occasion, (not to mention the creamy sauce). For his shooters he keeps it simple, combining vodka with some cocktail sauce.

In Seattle at Blueacre Seafood, Orfeo and Steelhead Diner, Chef Kevin Davis goes to town with Sequim Bay Oysters for Valentine’s. His most popular is served raw with a black truffle mignonette granita. But it doesn’t stop there. You’ll also find smoky rich flavors in his oysters roasted over the coals with toasted anise, garlic butter, parsley and apple smoked bacon, or

Asian-influenced light, fresh and exotic: oysters & sea urchin Crudo with green papaya salad, pickled daikon and whirred ginger vinaigrette. And that’s just starters. If your mood is to take your loved ones out for Valentine’s, you’ll also find Sequim Bay Oysters at the following restaurants: Elliot’s Oyster House in Seattle; Next Door Gastro Pub in Port Angeles; and Dockside Grill in Sequim.

But if the idea of a romantic candle lit home dinner tickles your fancy, you can purchase the Sequim Bay Oysters from Sunny Farms Country Store in Sequim, and create your own Feast of Love. Owner Kurt Grinnell’s parents love the Blue Opals, steaming them just until open. As Terri Grinnell says, “Perfect for Valentine’s – Oysters lightly tanned and in the Nude”.

Following are some sample dishes from Jamestown Seafood for your enjoyment.
Oyster Bellini Shooters with Peach Puree, Sweet Chili, Rum and Champagne
Creamy Oyster Bisque
Oysters with Ginger, Lime, and Lemongrass Mignonette

ABOUT JAMESTOWN SEAFOOD
Jamestown Seafood’s oyster farm is nestled in the pristine waters of Sequim Bay (pronounced “skwim”) along the Strait of Juan de Fuca and just before the entrance to the Puget Sound. Recognizing this watershed as distinctly different from the majority of oyster beds further along and deeper into the Puget Sound, the oyster industry is witnessing the emergence of something entirely new, distinctive and extremely delicious. Oyster production begins at the company owned hatchery, embracing scientifically regulated and meticulously managed spawning and seed grow out procedures. Maintaining a watchful eye on their oyster beds throughout the maturation process, Jamestown Seafood enjoys harvests that are commercially viable, sustainable, consistent, and abundant. Jamestown Seafood produces two varieties of Pacific Oysters (crassostrea gigas): Sequim Bay Jades (Beach Farmed), silky smooth, with unmistakable brine, subtle sweetness and a fresh cucumber finish, and Sequim Bay Blue Opals (Tumble Farmed) which are plump, juicy and succulent, display a clean ocean flavor accompanied by subtle sweetness and buttery texture. The company also recognizes the delicate balance that must be maintained between a thriving watershed and an economically viable commercial fishery. Working in cooperation with local, state and federal agencies, and moving beyond shellfish that are commercially sustainable today, the company is exploring ways to restore once prized, and now depleted, indigenous species.

02/13 THE SUPER MARKET GURU PHIL LEMPERT, FAT, THE 4 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW, PATSY MCGAUGHY, NAPA VALLEY VINTNERS

THE SUPER MARKET GURU PHIL LEMPERT - FAT, THE 4 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW

Philip Lempert has gained wide acclaim for his marketing savvy and broad experience. A distinguished speaker, he has addressed over 600,000 people over the past ten years, and is a respected analyst with an uncanny ability to identify and explain trends to both industry and consumers in a thought provoking and entertaining manner.

In December of 1985 Phil released his first forecast in The Lempert Report to help retailers and brands understand the opportunities for the coming year…and since then his predictions have been shared on television and in hundreds of publications including USA Today, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Fortune as well as retail and food trade publications

So sit back, take a read, and feel free to agree, build on and even disagree - and share your thoughts

FAT, THE 4 THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW
Here's the reason we all need fat.

Dietary fats are more important than your shoppers may have previously thought. Of course we know they are essential for keeping inflammation at bay (omega-3s), but they are also deeply satisfying, providing a feeling of fullness, and add a flavor, texture, and consistency to foods that we like – and expect. Fats are found in every cell membrane in all the cells in the body, and they are critical components of brain and nervous tissue. Additionally, fats are used to make hormones that affect blood pressure, blood clotting, immune function, and smooth muscle contraction.

For over two decades, health and nutrition researchers have discussed and debated the role of dietary fats; most of the debates have failed to stress the benefits of certain classes of fats and have mainly focused on the negative aspects. Until recently, virtually all of these discussions were based on recommendations from the National Academy of Sciences during the ‘80s. Following recommendations, Americans lowered their intake; saturated fat was seen as the bad guy, but little attention was given to the many benefits associated with other fats. Here are four things your shoppers need to know.

1. You need fat: Your body needs fat in order to function, without fats, we would not be able to properly absorb fat-soluble nutrients like vitamin A, D, E and K, and the range of carotenoids, the nutrients in foods like carrots and sweet potatoes.

2. Fat is great for the cardiovascular system and for managing weight: Researchers studying the Mediterranean diet, which consists of eating a variety of healthy foods that include whole grains, vegetables, protein and healthy monounsaturated and omega-3 fats, consistently find that this way of eating may lower heart disease risk nearly 30 percent. Healthy fats can also help you manage your weight. In fact, 25 to 30 percent of your total daily calories should come from fat.

3. The healthiest “fatty” foods: Olive oil, eggs, seeds and nuts, fish, avocado, coconut, grass fed or pastured chicken and beef.

4. Is lard making a comeback? Previously, lard was the fat that people cooked with. It wasn't butter, or canola oil or extra virgin olive oil. Lard - rendered pig fat - was what people used when they needed to make pastry; and even smeared on a piece of bread. It doesn't smoke at high temperatures so it's perfect for frying. It does wonders while roasting. Lard has 20 percent less saturated fat than butter; it's higher in monounsaturated fats which are said to lower LDL cholesterol; and it has no trans fats like shortening.

PATSY MCGAUGHY - COMMUNICATIONS DIRECTOR,  NAPA VALLEY VINTNERS

NAPA VALLEY AMERICAN VITICULTURAL AREA (AVA)
Though just 30 miles long and a few miles wide, Napa Valley is home to diverse microclimates and soils uniquely suited to the cultivation of a variety of fine wine grapes. Among the internationally acclaimed wines produced in this small region are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel and Cabernet Franc.

Small place, big reputation
As the first Agricultural Preserve in America, it’s also a region of incomparable natural beauty and winegrowing heritage being preserved for future generations through environmental leadership and community stewardship. Though just 4% of California’s wine grape harvest, Napa Valley is small in size yet big in stature. It was the first American Viticultural Area or AVA to be designated in California in 1981.

Only 2% of the world enjoys a dry Mediterranean climate. In Napa Valley this generous climate provides vintage-to-vintage consistency and exceptional quality that few other winegrowing regions can boast. Because of its unique geologic history, Napa Valley has a remarkable diversity of microclimates, weather and geography, as well as some of the most diverse soils found on earth. As a result, an array of premium wine grapes thrives here.

In spite of its international renown, Napa Valley is one of the smallest winegrowing regions in the world, with only one-sixth the planted acreage of Bordeaux. Nearly all wineries (95%) are family owned businesses. The region’s established viticultural practices result in low yields of high-quality grapes, from which skilled winemakers craft Napa Valley’s renowned wines.

Preserving Land and Community
Long before green and sustainable were buzzwords, Napa Valley became the home of the first Agricultural Preserve in the U.S. in 1968 and today has the most comprehensive and stringent land use and environmental regulations of any winegrowing region. To ensure quality of life for all of the community, the Napa Valley Vintners has invested $170 million to local health, youth and housing non-profits through its annual fundraiser, Auction Napa Valley.

ABOUT THE NAPA VALLEY VINTNERS
The Napa Valley Vintners nonprofit trade association has been cultivating excellence since 1944 by inspiring its more than 525 members to consistently produce wines of the highest quality, to provide environmental leadership and to care for the extraordinary place they call home.

OUR MISSION
To promote, protect and enhance the Napa Valley appellation.

OUR VISION
Through our collective efforts Napa Valley will be the leading wine region worldwide and will be preserved and enhanced for future generations.

OUR GOALS
Position and champion Napa Valley as the premier wine region in the world.
Protect and enhance the Napa Valley, its wines, environment and community.
Demonstrate the principles of our founders to strengthen the membership and perpetuate a world-class organization.

Through our signature marketing programs, industry advocacy and comprehensive member resources, we work continuously to be the voice of the Napa Valley wine industry for consumers, members of the wine trade and media outlets around the globe, and we strive to be the essential trade organization for any vintner producing Napa Valley wine in the Napa Valley.

OUR HISTORY
Forty-three years ago, our restaurant was built with tradition and has since continued with tradition. At our home in the old marketplace, we tribute our ancestors who came to America in the late 1800’s – their spirit and their recipes!

A little about this old building…
Originally built as an L-shaped marketplace in the days when Fullerton was an orchard (early 1900’s), the local farmers would bring their produce in from the fields by horse and wagon to sell to the townspeople. The original wood trusses of the old roof system may still be seen in the Venetian Room. Approximately twenty years later, renovation of the building changed it from its original L-shape to a square. This was accomplished by the large wood barrel trusses (an unusual truss!), which can be seen in the Sicilian Room and the Piazza Fantasia. During our renovation in 1992, the old wood, terra cotta tiles and brick was salvaged and re-used to keep alive the feeling and memories of those days long ago.

About our décor…
Be prepared when you walk into Angelo’s and Vinci’s Ristorante to be overwhelmed! With surprises in every corner, you won’t know where to look first! You will sit amidst the art of the great masters, in an Italian town square complete with the storefronts of old Italian butcher and cheese mongers, fruit and wine vendors, seamstresses showing their wares, and more. Fairy lights abound under cathedral ceilings as our ancestors smile down at you from the Family Love Altar. Explore and you will be surrounded by colorful Sicilian puppets, the carnival masks and canals of Venice, and the romance of Romeo & Juliet. Find our mystical Room of the Moon…and don’t forget King Kong, Dracula, Frankenstein, witches, ghosts and who-knows-what that await you in the Monster Wine Cellar!

And, as for Hollywood…
Founder, Steven Peck, renowned Hollywood dancer, choreographer and veteran actor of over 100 movies and television performances, has delightful photographs of over 40 years of famous stars, directors and dancers. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Gary Cooper, Robert Taylor, Broderick Crawford, Kirk Douglas, Walter Winchell, Sam Wanamaker, Vincent Minnelli, Sylvester Stallone, Ted Danson, David Hasselhof, Ray Sharkey, Shirley MacLaine, Cyd Charisse, Dolly Parton, Joan Collins, Raquel Welch, Olympia Dukakis, Shelly Winters and so many more. Films from Paramount, Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros., MGM, Desilu, United Artists, Universal Studios, to name a few.

Ask for a “Walking Tour” brochure to find out more about the meaning and dedications behind our décor!
