It’s especially important for the nearly 26 million Americans who have type 2 diabetes to control their cholesterol levels, since cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death in people with diabetes. Delores Merrick is a registered dietitian, licensed dietitian nutritionist, certified diabetes educator and certified weight management specialist with more than 25 years of experience. For 11 years, Delores served as the director of diabetes education with the Health Promotion Council of Southeastern Pennsylvania (HPC). Prior to joining HPC, she was a clinical dietitian at Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, where she was responsible for the nutritional care of patients with diabetes, renal disorders and cardiac disease. Delores is an active member of the Philadelphia chapters of the American Association of Diabetes Educators and the American Diabetes Association (ADA), where she co-chairs the programs committee of the volunteer leadership council as well as the ADA Philadelphia African-American Program.
