The public no longer relies on professional food experts alone when deciding what foods to buy. The new world of "word of mouth" recommendation is using the latest technologies - including mobile devices, bloggers, Twitter and even house parties. The 2009 Women and Social Media Study reports that 75% of women visit social networks such as Facebook and MySpace, and 55% (that's 23 million) either publish blogs, read blogs or post to blogs. Shoppers are depending less on advertising and more on social networking and word of mouth to help them decide where to eat, where to shop and what foods to buy for their families.

Supermarket Guru Phil Lempert will reveal the food trends to watch in 2010. While the traditional supermarket remains king, our guru will discuss the emerging trends in retail: small box stores, deep discounters and supercenters, and what shoppers are choosing to buy, no matter where they shop. That includes using "real foods" as ingredients, the importance of brand credibility, and purchasing more vitamin-enriched products.How shoppers can use the latest technology to find the best buy on their favorite foods

So much drama in the life ofFabio Viviani! He's already been locked out of his own restaurant and then suedhis partner,  made his departure from his restaurant. In a letter sent out this morning to the "friends and customers" ofCafe Firenze, the onetime Top Chef quote machine makes clear that even though he will retain some ownership, restaurant manager Mike Takeda has requested that neither Fabio nor his cookbooks be spotted at the restaurant ever again. You do hate to see that. The good news is that Fabio's new restaurant is now open.
