John Gonsalves - "Homes For Our Troops" "Kids For Our Troops"

In 2004, John Gonsalves founded Homes for Our Troops (HFOT), an organization that builds specially-adapted homes for severely injured military veterans. The New England construction supervisor was moved by our veterans’ commitment and found there was very little being done to specifically cater to the needs of those coming home with life-changing injuries or disabilities. Gonsalves saw that he could help, and the organization has since built nearly 50 homes for disabled veterans, catering to their special needs, from Massachusetts to California. This spring, in time for Memorial Day, HFOT is launching Kids for Our Troops (KFOT) to help parents, children, teachers, students, club leaders, and civic organizations get involved in the efforts to provide these homes for disabled veterans and their families. Through a partnership with FUJIFILM SeeHere.com, a photo printing, gifting, and sharing website, KFOT is offering students, ages 13-16, the opportunity to pursue their dreams of becoming photojournalists by chronicling a “build” in their area.

The Incredible True Story Of The New Jersey BBQ Joint Owner From The Wrong Side Of The Tracks Who Is Repairing Relations Between The US And North Korea!  Bobby Egan grew up in the mean streets of working-class Fairfield, New Jersey where he once mowed the lawn of Bobby Vesco. A high school dropout and rehabbed drug abuser, Egan never could have imagined that one day he would set out on a mission to improve relations between the United States and North Korea. He has accomplished what U.S. diplomats and the State Department would not and could not do: he extended an olive branch to a hostile regime in the dual hopes of seeking out information on POW/MIAs and normalizing relations between hostile countries in the nuclear age. His incredible story is wonderfully told in his memoir, EATING WITH THE ENEMY: How I Waged Peace with North Korea from my BBQ Shack in Hackensack.

5/26 - Joe Montagna, Ryan Scott, Peter Kastelan, Frank Belfiore, James Villas ,

Joe Mantegna (CBS' "Criminal Minds")  (PBS' "Memorial Day Concert")
Acclaimed actors Joe Mantegna and Gary Sinise will reunite for a fifth time to co-host the 2010 National Memorial Day Concert. The program is co-hosted for the fifth year by Emmy Award-winner Gary Sinise ("CSI: New York") and Tony Award-winner Joe Mantegna ("Criminal Minds"), two acclaimed actors who have dedicated themselves to veterans' causes and supporting our troops in active service. Joining them will be an all-star line-up of dignitaries, actors and musical artists.  For more than 20 years this top-rated annual program has honored the service and sacrifice of our men and women in uniform, their families at home and all those who have given their lives for our country. The show is broadcast live in High Definition from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol before an expected live audience of hundreds of thousands, to millions more at home and, via American Forces Network to the nearly one million American service men and women, Department of Defense civilians and their families overseas, stationed at bases in 175 countries as well as 140 U.S. Navy ships at sea.  (Gary Sinise is on PM Show Friday and "Criminal Minds" has the Season Finale Tonight at 9 PM on CBS  with Special Guest star Tim Curry)

James Villas  -  "Pig: King of the Southern Table "
James Villas was the food and wine editor of Town & Country magazine for 27 years, and his work has appeared in Food & Wine, Saveur, Gourmet, Bon Appétit, The New York Times, and many other publications. He has written 15 cookbooks and books on food, including two that were nominated for James Beard Awards and featured in Food & Wine's annual "Best of the Best." He has won two James Beard Journalism Awards, most recently for an article in Saveur, and was named Bon Appétit's Food Writer of the Year for 2003. He is also the author of The Glory of Southern Cooking and The Bacon Cookbook, both from Wiley.  If pig is indeed king, then there is trouble at the castle, for Villas (Dancing in the Lowcountry) has stormed the gates and had at him, leaving no sweetbread, shoulder, or chop untasted. So let the commoners rejoice: here are 300 recipes from Southern hog heaven that are juicy, flirtatious, and, at times, scary. Brave hearts will want to immediately dive into the Variety and Special Meats chapter for some deviled pork liver; hog's head stew; and brains and eggs. The upper crust might prefer a pork pie. Choices include spicy Tennessee sausage; Pork, Apple and Raisin; or Bacon and Corn. A section on barbecue and ribs includes both North and South Carolina styles of BBQ and half a dozen sparerib options. And where lesser authors might stray off-topic when moving to side dishes, Villas, with 13 cookbooks and two James Beard awards under his belt, knows better. All 39 vegetable and rice dishes are chock full of oink, from the mushy turnips with bacon and pork to the slab bacon hoppin' John. Similarly, there are 20 breads that are decidedly not fat-free. That other Southern king, Elvis, would surely have appreciated the bacon-peanut butter muffins, perhaps chased down with a lard hoecake or some bacon-grease hush puppies.

Frank Belfiore  - Findlandia Cheese
Frank is a cheese expert and can discuss Entertaining with Cheese. As a resident expert from the # 1 Imported Cheese in America, Frank can discuss a variety of different cheese flavors that are available as well as specific attributes for each. Additionally, Frank can give your listeners insight regarding what type of cheese is best suited for a particular recipe. For example, when deciding what type of cheese to add to your burger, you could select by taste alone, but another option might be based on melting qualities, how the flavor compliments beef, turkey or lamb, depending on the type of burger you choose, etc. Frank can also discuss how factors like geography and care of the animals used in the cheese making process impact the end result.

Chef Ryan Scott -  "Perfect Burger"
Ryan Scott, recent chef-testant on a top-rated cooking reality show, zeroed-in on his love for cooking at the age of nine, when he began asking for cooking utensils for Christmas instead of traditional toys. His passion for food led him to the prestigious California Culinary Academy and eventually to renowned chef Gary Danko, with whom he earned his five-star culinary protocols. Ryan’s creative kitchen style most recently had America putting down their knives and tuning into Top Chef Season 4. Ryan feeds the soul as well as the stomach by donating time and cuisine to numerous community organizations such as Meals on Wheels, the American Heart Association and the Make-a-Wish Foundation. A typical hamburger can be upwards of 250 calories with more than nine grams of fat, and that’s before you slap on the cheese, place it on a bun, add ketchup, fried onions, chili, or whatever else strikes your fancy. But according to former Top Chef contestant Ryan Scott, you don’t have to let these facts and figures turn the lights out on your Memorial Day barbeque dreams. Ryan will offer a remake on the typical barbeque menu with suggestions for making the all-important burger better-for-you. He’ll offer alternatives for side dishes and main dishes while making sure you don’t miss that bold, burger taste this Memorial Day. Ryan’s BBQ remake menu will strike the balance between full-flavor and better-for-you

5/21 - Hank Aaron, Susan Maher, Malanie Paloma, Jason Myers, Steve Evans, Karen Davidson,

Maureen Maher - CBS'  48 HOURS MYSTERY  “One Of Their Own”
Maureen Maher has contributed to 48 Hours since 2003. Previously, she had been a correspondent for CBS News since 1999 and was based in Dallas. The family of Sherri Rae Rasmussen, who was 29 when she was murdered in 1986, is calling for a probe into the Los Angeles Police Department’s original investigation, which left the case unsolved for over two decades. Rasmussen, the director of critical care nursing at Glendale Adventist Medical Center, was discovered in her Van Nuys condominium badly beaten and shot to death at point-blank range. In an exclusive interview with 48 HOURS MYSTERY, Sherri’s father, Nels, details how he tried repeatedly to get detectives to investigate his son-in-law’s ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Lazarus, who friends and family say Sherri complained was stalking her. “To me it would border on harassment,” says Nels, who accuses authorities of ignoring their pleas about Lazarus. “The first weeks, the first five days I mentioned it so many times that he kind of lost his cool with me, saying that there was no need to go there,” says Nels about the lead detective. And the family’s attorney, John Taylor, calls the 1986 investigation, “sloppy, negligent, inept and incompetent.”  At the time, Los Angeles was in the midst of a dramatic spike in crime and authorities quickly latched onto the theory that this was a case of a robbery gone horribly wrong, yet no suspects were ever arrested. The case remained unsolved until authorities quietly reopened the investigation and uncovered evidence that would debunk the original burglary theory.  Los Angeles Times police reporters Andrew Blankstein and Joel Rubin broke the story last year that a well respected LA detective had been arrested for the 23-year-old murder – that detective was Stephanie Lazarus. Blankstein and Rubin, who were also consultants for this program, say that the arrest sent a shockwave through the LAPD.  “Nobody saw this coming. Nobody says she was a cop that they saw on the edge,” says Rubin. “People in the department saw her as a cop’s cop, a good cop.”  Lazarus had ascended to a high-profile position in the commercial crimes unit. “In doing those kind of investigations…it gets a lot of press, a lot of attention,” says Blankstein. “If the police and prosecutors are to be believed, she’s harboring a secret about murder for 23 years.” Maureen Maher reports in 48 HOURS MYSTERY: “One Of Their Own,” Saturday, May 22, (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.

Hank Aaron - Legendary Baseball player
Hank Aaron is one of the greatest baseball players of all time. He broke Babe Ruth’s legendary lifetime mark of 714 home runs, eventually setting a record of 755 homers before he retired. But after retirement, he began to experience knee pain. Over the years, Hank’s knee pain increased to the point that he couldn’t do many of his favorite activities and even had trouble walking short distances. Hank was in top physical condition during his career in professional baseball, experiencing very few injuries. He became frustrated when the simplest physical activities, such as driving a car, became uncomfortable. He was determined to find something to help relieve his pain without resorting to surgery.  Henry Louis "Hank" Aaron (born February 5, 1934 in Mobile, Alabama) is a retired American baseball player whose Major League Baseball (MLB) career spanned the years 1954 through 1976. Aaron is widely considered one of the greatest baseball players of all time. In 1999, editors at The Sporting News ranked Hank Aaron fifth on their list of "Greatest Baseball Players."  After playing with the Indianapolis Clowns of the Negro American League and in the minor leagues, Aaron started his major league career in 1954. (He is the last Negro league baseball player to have played in the major leagues.)[1] He played 21 seasons with the Milwaukee and Atlanta Braves in the National League, and his last two years (1975–76) with the Milwaukee Brewers in the American League. His most notable achievement was setting the MLB record for most career home runs. During his professional career, Aaron performed at a consistently high level for an extended period of time. He hit 24 or more home runs every year from 1955 through 1973, and is the only player to hit 30 or more home runs in a season at least fifteen times.[2] He is one of only four players to have at least seventeen seasons with 150 or more hits.[3] Aaron made the All-Star team every year from 1955 until 1975[4] and won three Rawlings Gold Glove Awards. In 1957, he won the National League Most Valuable Player Award, while that same year, the Braves won the World Series, his one World Series victory during his career.  Aaron's consistency helped him to establish a number of important hitting records during his 23-year career. Aaron holds the MLB records for the most career runs batted in (2,297), the most career extra base hits (1,477). Hank Aaron is also in the top five for career hits with 3,771 (third) and runs with 2,174, which is tied for fourth with Babe Ruth. He also is in second place in at-bats (12,364), and in third place in games played (3,298). Aaron's nicknames include "Hammer," "Hammerin' Hank,” and "Bad Henry”.

Especially the dreaded ‘V’ word – vegetables!   Chef Ross Kamens, founding chef at Noodles & Company, will tell you how you can come up with meal solutions that do it all. Chef Ross has developed recipes, tips and tools to help parents teach their kids to love foods that are good for them

Lee Woodruff -  "Perfectly Imperfect: A Life in Progress"
My first book In an Instant was co-authored with my husband Bob, the ABC News Anchor who was critically injured in Iraq in 2006. No one was more surprised than we were when it hit number one on the New York Times bestseller list and stayed there for four weeks. We were proud that the book helped to put a face on the serious issue of traumatic brain injury among returning Iraq war veterans, as well as the millions of Americans who live with this often invisible, but life-changing affliction. In the end, people tell me it is a love story; a story about a family, a marriage and a journey to heal.  Following Bob’s injury and miraculous recovery, we founded the Bob Woodruff Foundation, Remind.org to assist wounded servicemen and their families receive the long-term care that they need and help them successfully reintegrate into their communities. We both continue to speak and raise awareness about the plight of our returning veterans.

5/17 - Catherine McCord, Cherie Kimmons, Tracey Ryder, Ivano Toscani

Catherine McCord - American fashion model - actress -  television program hostess
Weelicious.com Is Kid-Friendly, Parent-Approved  Busy parents around the world can now rejoice. Weelicious (www.weelicious.com), the brainchild of actress, model, and mom Catherine McCord, provides a solution to parents’ hectic lives by showing them how to cook recipes that are kid-friendly, quick, and nutritious. Since Weelicious launched in October 2007, Catherine has been offering innovative ideas and instruction for delicious meals that are “easy, fresh, and fun.” Bolstered by a culinary background and a passion for food, Catherine makes cooking accessible using few, but fresh ingredients. Recipes appeal to a range of ages – from infants starting on solid foods to school-age kids and adults. “As a parent, you don’t have to be a short-order cook preparing four different meals for four different family members,” she says.  Through Weelicious.com, and her growing international audience on Facebook and Twitter, Catherine is sharing what she’s learned through extensive research and experimentation in her own family kitchen. Yummy recipes like Baked Maple Bananas, Red Beet Hummus, and Pumpkin Waffle Sandwiches that quickly became hits for her kids, promptly became popular with parents as well on her website. With a new recipe or tip debuting daily and how-to cooking videos posted every Friday, Weelicious is a wealth of information for parents, and a visual delight for foodies of any age.  Weelicious is a realistic approach to quick, nutritious eating with unedited videos of cooking demos featuring – who else? – Catherine, her 3-year old son, Kenya, and 1-year old daughter, Chloe. Unlike other kid-friendly cooking sites, Weelicious focuses on educating kids and involving them in the process. No cheap tricks, sneaking or hiding pureed veggies into the usual kid-fare like mac and cheese – a trend that has become popular and concerns Catherine. “Our philosophy is to be honest, and include and engage your kids in the kitchen,” says Catherine. “Do this, and you will undoubtedly see a change in their eating habits, particularly if they are picky eaters.”  Catherine’s kids aren’t the only family members on board. Her husband, Jon, a film producer, “didn’t know how to cook a thing when we met,” Catherine says only half jokingly. He now credits Catherine with instilling in him a passion for cooking and a desire to treat food as an art medium. “Painting can take weeks,” she laughs. “Food is instant gratification.”  In addition to recipes and videos, Weelicious, with the help of a licensed nutritionist, provides resourceful information about organics, food groups, vitamins and minerals, potential food allergens, and tips on engaging reluctant eaters.   Growing up in Louisville, KY, Catherine credits her parents and grandparents for her early understanding of the impact food has on our health and well-being. Cooking and enjoying healthy, delicious food was a priority for Catherine’s mom, as was sharing this philosophy with her children. “I also learned a lot from my grandparents about respecting food,” says Catherine. “Gardening, composting, canning, shopping at farmer’s markets; these are traditions I’m now passing along to my children.”  A born athlete, Catherine excelled at running and basketball, and was working towards an athletic scholarship when she got a devastating hip injury. Soon after, when a friend signed her up for a local modeling contest, little did Catherine know that this would be the first step on the path to a successful modeling career.Discovered by Elite Models Management at 15, Catherine went on to win “Look of the Year,” Elite’s premiere and prestigious modeling contest. From there, she spent her summers in New York or Paris, modeling for Victoria’s Secret, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan, and other prestigious designers in the fashion industry. Catherine soon ventured into television, as well, landing roles as reporter on Extra!, Dick Clark’s Rocking New Year’s Eve, and a run as co-host on MTV’s Loveline with Dr. Drew and Adam Corrola.  Fortunately, Catherine avoided the pitfalls many young models find themselves in, such as drug abuse and eating disorders, attributing her success to a strong sense of family values, and an understanding about what she needed to give her body in order for it to function properly. Her parents supported her modeling career and grounded her with guidance. Catherine’s dad encouraged her to save her money so that she could one day afford to focus on her true passion – cooking and food.  That time came in 2002, soon after the devastating attacks of 9/11. Impacted by the tragedy, Catherine decided to finally follow her dreams and enroll at the Institute for Culinary Education in Manhattan.

Tracey Ryder "Edible"
A gorgeous full-color celebration of America's local food heroes and traditions, Edible is for anyone who cares about delicious, safe, sustainable food being cultivated and created every day by people in our own communities. The book offers engaging, inspiring profiles of farmers, artisans, chefs, and organizations that are making a difference, and shares eighty seasonal recipes that highlight the very best local foods across the country. Ryder and Topalian, cofounders of Edible Communities Publications, a network of 65 regional food magazines that honor place-based food, cull the best of the best Edible articles to create an inviting and rewarding collection celebrating local food and sustainable food systems around the U.S. and Canada. With 150 striking color photos, the book is a feast for the eyes, mind, and palate. Divided into geographic regions, it shares success stories and profiles of remarkable individuals and businesses in each, from Boston's Allandale Farm, the last working farm in the area, through Phoenix's gentle giant chef Greg LaPrad, to Seattle's Lummi Island Wild Preserves. We learn about Richmond, Va.'s Belmont Butchery and its Old Fashioned Charcuterie, Missoula, Mont.'s Le Petit Outre bakery, and southeastern Michigan's Calder Dairy. Each story provides a perfect balance of inspiration, delight, information, and gratitude that such operations and artisans still exist. The authors also include a tasty array of recipes, organized by season, including Aspen tri-tip roast; collard tops with parmigiano; and double corn spoon bread. With the recent growth of the slow food and locavore movements, this well-timed book is a welcome and vital contribution to the ongoing challenge of sustainability.

Ivano Toscani - GM Anchor Bar - Buffalo, NY
On a Friday night in 1964, Dominic Bellissimo was tending bar at the now famous Anchor Bar Restaurant in Buffalo, NY. Late that evening, a group of Dominic's friends arrived at the bar with ravenous appetites. Dominic asked his mother, Teressa, to prepare something for his friends to eat.  They looked like chicken wings, a part of the chicken that usually went into the stock pot for soup. Teressa had deep fried the wings and flavored them with a secret sauce. The wings were an instant hit and it didn't take long for people to flock to the bar to experience this new taste sensation. From that evening on, Buffalo Wings became a regular part of the menu at the Anchor Bar. The phenomenon created in 1964 by Teressa Bellissimo has spread across the globe. Although many have tried to duplicate Buffalo Wings, the closely guarded secret recipe is what makes Frank & Teressa's the proclaimed "Best Wings in the World."  President Barrack Obama recently visited Buffalo on business and when to the wrong wings location - Ivano tells us what happened.
