TEAM USA PARALYMPIC GOLD MEDALIST RICO ROMAN - JOIN RICO ROMAN AS HE TRAINS FOR THE 2018 PARALYMPIC WINTER GAMES WITH TEAM MILK
Join Rico Roman as he trains for the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games with Team Milk
Through its partnership with the United States Olympic Committee (USOC), the Milk Life campaign is introducing its full roster of Team Milk athletes – including U.S. Paralympic Gold Medalist in Men’s Sled Hockey and Purple Heart recipient Rico Roman – this October.
On October 26, Rico Roman will provide a small group of media with an inside look into how an elite Paralympic sled hockey athlete trains for the biggest sporting event in the world. From training tips, nutrition know-how, and a workshop in the basics of sled hockey, Roman will share what drives him to work hard and train hard on his road to PyeongChang, and beyond.
Rico Roman has become one of the most honored U.S. Paralympic sled hockey players in history. After his left leg was amputated above the knee when injured by an improvised explosive device (IED) while serving his third tour in Iraq in 2007, he joined the San Antonio Rampage Sledge Hockey Team in 2009 and began his successful sled hockey career. Rico has served on the U.S. National Sled Hockey Team since 2011 and became a U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist at the 2014 Paralympic Winter Games in Sochi.
HEATHER MURAN - EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, SAN LUIS OBISPO WINE COUNTRY ASSOCIATION – HARVEST ON THE COAST
SLO Wine Country includes two small adjoining American Viticultural Areas—the Edna Valley and Arroyo Grande Valley—and other nearby winegrowing areas. Each of these areas shares a unifying proximity to the ocean, as well as to each other. Collectively, these growing conditions forge a unifying wine quality that is native to SLO Wine Country:
The reliable cooling effect of the nearby Pacific Ocean ensures a long growing season, enabling the grapes to achieve physiological ripeness and natural balance. Cool-climate varietals such as Chardonnay and Pinot Noir excel in the heart of SLO Wine Country, and even the warmest areas benefit from considerable marine influence.
The ocean proximity also exerts a moderating effect on the climate, minimizing temperature swings so that growing conditions are rarely hot or cold. The result is an extraordinarily steady growing season that fosters balanced ripening and consistent quality from vintage to vintage.
The imprint of the ocean is also evident in SLO Wine Country's uncommonly complex soils, which are frequently riddled with ancient sea fossils. Soil variation enables the winegrower to mix and match varietals to specific soil profiles, or to add more "colors" to the palette of a single varietal, heightening overall quality and complexity.
