SUSAN ZIRINSKY – EXECUTIVE PRODUCER, 48 HOURS - “LAST CHANCE FOR FREEDOM” – 8:00 PM ET

“48 HOURS” DOUBLE FEATURE
August 19, 2017

“Last Chance for Freedom” – 8:00 pm
“Princess Diana: Her Life | Her Death | The Truth” – 9:00 pm

Erin Moriarty and 48 HOURS have the latest in the legal efforts to get Crosley Green, a Florida man convicted of murder and who has spent 28 years in prison, a shot at an appeal in an updated edition of “Last Chance for Freedom” to be broadcast (8:00 PM ET/PT)  on the CBS Television Network.

It’s a case 48 HOURS has been covering for more than 18 years and one that exposes flaws in the investigative process, and in the prosecution, that may have led to an innocent man being convicted of murder.  But now, Green awaits a new hearing that may open up the possibility of an appeal of his conviction.

“We have to not be afraid to say I got it wrong and we have to do something about it. We should just preserve convictions for convictions’ sake,” says Seth Miller, who runs the Innocence Project in Florida. “This isn’t about wins and losses. It’s about the lives of real people.”

In 1990, Green was convicted for the murder of Charles Flynn in Titusville, Fla., and sentenced to death. Green was arrested after Flynn’s former girlfriend, Kim Hallock, called police and said she and Flynn were hijacked by a black man with a gun and driven to an orange grove. Flynn was shot. Hallock told police she was able to get in the truck and drive off. Hallock picked Green’s picture from a photo lineup. Green has maintained his innocence. Prosecutors found three witnesses who said Green had confessed to them, the most damning, his sister Sheila Green. A jury decided his fate in three hours. Since then, all three of the witnesses against him have recanted their testimony and two retired Brevard County Sheriff’s officers say they’ve had questions about the case from the start.

But will Green ever get a chance to prove his innocence?

Then at 9:00 PM, CBS THIS MORNING co-host Gayle King explores the public and private life of a complex woman who died too soon in an encore of  PRINCESS DIANA: HER LIFE | HER DEATH | THE TRUTH.  Through the words of those who knew her, who admired her, in her own words, and through the rich archive of CBS News, the two-hour special looks at the impact Princess Diana had on Britain, the monarchy and the world.

From her wedding to Prince Charles in 1981 until her tragic death on August 31, 1997 in a horrific car crash in the Pont de I’Alma road tunnel in Paris, Princess Diana was a public draw, but there was much more behind the headlines most people never knew. Behind the crown and the designer dresses, Diana was a complicated and occasionally unpredictable woman, say those who knew her best. Just as the world watched as Prince Charles and Diana married, they watched as the marriage unraveled. They also followed along as Princess Diana reemerged in public life alone after the divorce and right up until she died.

Her death was just as controversial as her life. The special, produced by the team at 48 HOURS, takes viewers on a journey through the four independent investigations in two separate countries that followed her death. The also broadcast examines each of the theories and finally puts to rest what really happened the night she was killed in a car crash.

PRINCESS DIANA: HER LIFE | HER DEATH | THE TRUTH is produced by Chris Ritzen, Ruth Chenetz, Liza Finley, Jamie Stolz and Anthony Venditti. Lauren Clark, Charlotte Fuller, Stephen A. McCain and Stephanie Slifer are the field producers. Simon Downs, Simon Ellory, Delphine Reau, Isabel Marking, Charles Berkowitz, Dena Goldstein, Kayla Keddal, Lauren White, Brittany Morgan and Katie Fallon are the associate producers. Mead Stone is the producer-editor. Doreen Schechter, Michael Baluzy, Richard Barber, Atticus Brady, Ken Blum, Michael McHugh, Gregory F. McLaughlin, Diana Modica and Jason Schmidt are the editors. Deb Thomson, Andy Clarke and Paolo Marenghi are the senior producers in London. Jerry Cipriano is the writer. Patti Aronofsky is the senior broadcast producer. Rob Klug is the director.  Anthony Batson is the senior broadcast producer. Susan Zirinsky is the senior executive producer.

48 HOURS: “Last Chance for Freedom” is produced by Gail Abbott Zimmerman and Doug Longhini. Charlotte A Fuller is the field producer. Linda Martin and Leslie Neigher are the update producers. Greg McLaughlin is the producer-editor. Grayce Arlotta-Berner, George Baluzy, Richard Barber, Atticus Brady, Doreen Schechter and David Spungen are the editors. Al Briganti is the executive editor. 08/15 GABE GARCIA, TIERRA SUR AT HERZOG WINE CELLARS, CHEF GREG GROWHOWSKI, THE HYATT REGENCY MAUI RESORT & SPA

GABE GARCIA - HEAD CHEF OF TIERRA SUR AT HERZOG WINE CELLARS - 10 MISTAKES YOU SHOULD NEVER MAKE WHEN GRILLING

10 MISTAKES YOU SHOULD NEVER MAKE WHEN GRILLING:

1) Don't overcrowd the grill. Don't make the mistake of favoring quantity over quality. By crowding the meat you are compromising on the best part about cooking over open fire: the crust. Cooking in shifts might take a little bit longer, but your steaks will be grilled perfectly.

2) Don't jump the gun. If you've just turned the fire on and are itching to get going, DON’T! You'll need at least 10 minutes to heat a gas grill and 20 to heat a charcoal grill. We repeat: heat the grill fully before you start cooking, or your food will stick so badly, you'll want to throw your grates out and start over. Be patient.

3) Skip the sauce. We know, it's called barbecue sauce. Ignore that compelling logic and avoid using sugary sauces at all cost. You don't need to hide your meat behind sweet, heavy sauces that coat your grates and cause ugly flare ups. Use spice rubs to flavor your meat, and if you MUST use a sauce, use it only at the very end.

4) Menu Plan.  Do yourself a favor and plan for some non-BBQ items on the menu. It's a good idea to make sure you have some food that can be cooked indoors or prepared in advance, so you don't overwhelm the grill, or the griller. If you're entertaining, having food that's ready to go right away will take a load of pressure off, so you can man the fire, stress free.

 5) Start with a clean machine. Making sure your grates are clean before you get started will help you avoid any fiery accidents or food that sticks to the grill. Invest in a new grill brush whenever you see loose bristles.

6) Leave the lid alone.  By now, you are well on your way to grill mastery, so don't stop now! After searing your food on the hot section of your grill, move it to the cooler section and close the lid. Don't peek, either. A watched steak cooks unevenly!

7) Let your meat rest. Fight all urges to slice into the meat for at least 10 minutes. Yes, ten whole minutes are necessary for your meat or chicken to rest before you start cutting! The juices that got released during cooking need to redistribute in order to give you a juicy, flavorful protein. Skipping this step WILL result in dry meat.

8) Grill beef at room temperature. Ever been to a restaurant or cooked a steak that had a perfectly charred crust, cooked for the right amount of time, but when you cut into it, the interior was a hint away from still mooing? Firing a cold steak will result in meat that's cooked unevenly. Allow your meat to come all the way to room temperature before cooking for best results every time.

9) Cut against the grain. Meat muscle fibers generally run in one direction, and you want to slice the meat across those lines of muscle fibers. Even if you have one of those weird cuts of meat that has a grain that switches direction half way through, do it. The difference between shoe leather and melt in your mouth could literally be the angle that you are holding your knife.

10) Use the right tools. You need BBQ tools that are formulated to keep you safe while grilling, primarily by keeping your hands away from fire. Use long handled tongs and spatulas only, and be on guard to swat away wandering plastic forks attached to people who are itching to get their hands on one of your famous burgers straight off the grill. Pro tip: use a thermometer with a non-contact infrared sensor for perfectly cooked meat.

FOOD SAFETY EXPERT, MARIANNE GRAVELY - TIPS TO PREVENT FOOD-BORNE ILLNESS THIS FALL

USDA Food Safety Expert Shares Tips to Protect your Family from Foodborne Illness

During the busy fall season, whether you’re preparing a packed lunch for your child, a weeknight dinner for the family or a tailgate feast for the whole crew, it is important to follow guidance from the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service to prevent foodborne illness. Children are among the most vulnerable to food poisoning, so parents and caregivers need to take extra precautions when preparing and packing healthy, safe meals.

Food poisoning is not simply an upset stomach; it is a serious public health problem in America. In fact, the CDC estimates that it results in approximately 128,000 hospitalizations and an estimated 3,000 deaths each year. Within just two hours at room temperature, the microorganisms that are growing on food can multiply to dangerous levels, which can cause foodborne illness. With most students unable to store their lunches in a refrigerator, it’s important for parents and caregivers to use safe packing practices and educate children on safe eating practices.

To help parents, caregivers and kids prepare for the fall season filled with school, weeknight dinners, tailgates and more, the Food Safe Families campaign offers helpful tips for making school lunches and snacks that highlight the four key safe food handling behaviors: Clean. Separate. Cook. Chill.

08/11 DR. PAULA KAHUMBU, WILDLIFEDIRECT, AMARULA CREAM LIQUEUR, BRETT ANDERSON, ROBB REPORT, ELIZABETH WERNER, STEVE EVANS, THE MOVIE GUY

DR. PAULA KAHUMBU – CEO OF WILDLIFEDIRECT - HOW WILDLIFE DIRECT’S PARTNERSHIP WITH AMARULA CREAM LIQUEUR WILL HELP PROTECT AFRICAN ELEPHANTS

Did you know that one elephant is lost to poaching every 15 minutes? African elephants are a keystone species, meaning other species within an ecosystem largely depend on them. Poaching poses a massive threat to their survival, as well as the delicate balance of the ecosystem. It is vital to take steps in their conservation. While the ivory trade is illegal today, it has not been completely eliminated and the African elephant remains endangered.

In anticipation of World Elephant Day, Dr. Paula Kahumbu, the dynamic CEO of the non-profit organization, WildlifeDIRECT, talks about the status of the disappearing African elephant population and what her organization is trying to do to save them, specifically in partnership with Amarula, the award-winning South African cream liqueur. In 2016, they shared the vision to drive conservation through education. Together, they are launching a new campaign called “Don’t Let Them Disappear,” which will help fund programs that protect the African elephant. To kick-off the debut of this campaign, and in an effort to visually showcase the plight of the African elephant, a life-sized elephant ice sculpture titled “The Disappearing Elephant,” will be installed and on display in Manhattan’s Union Square on World Elephant Day, melting and eventually vanishing before spectator’s eyes.

DID YOU KNOW?
· African elephants are the largest land animals on earth and can weigh up to 7 tons.
· An adult elephant can consume up to 300 pounds of food in a single day and eat a combination of roots, grasses, bark and fruits, such as marula.
· Elephants can recognize themselves- something very few animals are known to do!
· After a death, elephant family members show signs of grief.
· Approximately 80% of elephant deaths are due to poaching.
· There are only approximately 400,000 African Elephants left in Africa.

08/10 DAN BARWICK, PARADISE RIDGE WINERY, CHEF KAI KANI, AN AFTERNOON OF MAGIC AND MYSTERY

DAN BARWICK - WINEMAKER FOR PARADISE RIDGE WINERY

In 1961 when Walter Byck married Marijke Hoenselaars in Holland, little did the newlyweds know what was ahead. That together, they would discover and build a wine estate in the heart of the world’s finest grape growing region, the Russian River Valley.

Walter and Marijke moved to Santa Rosa in 1965, with two of their five children already in tow. They soon realized they had found a haven to raise their growing family. In 1978, after more than a year of searching for a family property, Walter came home and said, “Marijke, children, I have seen Paradise!” Thereafter, the 155 acres overlooking the Russian River Valley in Sonoma County, California became known as Paradise Ranch.

With a love of wine, combined with an appreciation for the incredible region they now called home, our parents were inspired to cultivate vineyards. In the first year, Sauvignon Blanc was planted followed by Chardonnay. Recognizing the quality of these vineyards, our family was encouraged to start their own winery. Furthermore, after five years of planning, the dream of Paradise Ridge became a reality. Opened in May of 1994, Paradise Ridge is a haven where guests bring their friends. It is where anyone can savor vineyard-designated wines and take in sweeping wine country views.

Our California-style tasting room was designed to complement the beauty of the surrounding nature. Visitors are welcomed by a European styled courtyard and expansive verandas. Guests can enjoy breathtaking views of the vineyards. Additionally, the Russian River Valley and the two-story High LOVE sculpture are visible. The serene atmosphere is the ideal setting for celebrations. The location is also great for joyful brides and grooms to exchange their wedding vows. On Saturdays during summer months, visitors enjoy ‘Pizza in Paradise’ crafted by local non-profit Worth our Weight, to pair perfectly with Paradise Ridge wines.

We lost our mother and leader Marijke Byck-Hoenselaars in 2006. Since then, our Paradise Ridge Family have been continuously inspired to carry on her rich tradition of sharing the bounty of Paradise — its wine, beauty and art.

08/07 DOUG MARGERUM, MARGERUM WINE COMPANY, TASTE OF THE TOWN SANTA BARBARA, CHEF FRANCO DE DOMINICIS, FRANCO ON MELROSE ITALIAN RESTAURANT

DOUG MARGERUM FROM MARGERUM WINE COMPANY NAMED HONORARY LEAD VINTNER FOR 36TH ANNUAL TASTE OF THE TOWN SANTA BARBARA

Doug Margerum Named Honorary Lead Vintner for 36th Annual Taste of the Town Santa Barbara Benefitting the Arthritis Foundation

The Arthritis Foundation Central Coast has named legendary wine pioneer Doug Margerum, owner and director of winemaking at Margerum Wine Company as Honorary Lead Vintner for its 36th Annual Taste of the Town Santa Barbara—the area’s signature culinary event happening Sunday, September 10, 2017 from Noon-3:00 p.m. at Riviera Park, 2030 Alameda Padre Serra. The popular Taste of the Town Santa Barbara features samplings from 80 of the area’s finest restaurants, caterers, wineries, breweries and spirits providers, with a silent auction of lifestyle items; photo booth, VIP Lounge and live jazz entertainment by the David Tovar Trio. All proceeds from Taste of the Town Santa Barbara support the local programs and services of the Arthritis Foundation. Margerum will be feted by organizers and presented with an award honoring his support and service over the past four decades.

A native of Southern California, Doug Margerum began his food & wine journey in childhood while traveling with his parents in France and Italy. He worked as a restaurant cook and server throughout high school and college while continuing to hone his culinary skills. In 1981, the same year he graduated from UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Business Economics, Margerum’s family purchased the Wine Cask, a small retail store in downtown Santa Barbara; it grew into a bistro and fine-dining establishment when it expanded in 1991, winning high praise from critics including the late Julia Child, a long-time friend and supporter. Doug launched the Wine Cask Futures Program in 1984 which elevated the exposure of Santa Barbara wines nationally. In 1994, the Wine Cask became one of only 74 restaurants in the world to earn the Wine Spectator Grand Award.  In 2001, Margerum Wine Company began in a cozy 240-square foot cold room behind Brander Vineyards in Santa Ynez. Margerum’s philosophy is  handcrafted and personal—then as now, Margerum Wine Company produces limited quantities of wines made from grapes grown at the top vineyards around Santa Barbara County; created since 2012 at a state-of-the-art winery located in Buellton. Margerum primarily produces M5 (a Rhône varietal red blend), a co-fermented Syrah called ÜBER; SYBARITE Sauvignon Blanc and RIVIERA Rosé. In 2014, Margerum released BARDEN wines – an exploration of cold climate grapes grown in and around the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. He and his Margerum Wine Company team are continually innovating and expressing the finest vintages.

The 2017 Taste of the Town Santa Barbara also features the 8th annual Connoisseurs’ Circle Gala Dinner on Friday, September 8, 2017, from 6:00-11:00 p.m. at Bacara Resort & Spa. The evening features a 4-course gourmet dinner by 2017 Honorary Lead Chef Mark Strausman from Freds at Barneys New York who will be pairing wines from 2017 Honorary Vintner Doug Margerum & Margerum Wine Company as well as a reception featuring ten Taste of the Town wine, beer & spirits partners on the outdoor terrace. The evening will also feature live & silent auctions followed by dancing to tunes from DJ Darla Bea. Connoisseurs’ Circle evening seating is limited so advance reservations are required.

Returning to co-chair this 36th annual Santa Barbara food & wine tradition are opal Restaurant & Bar co-owners, Tina Takaya and Richard Yates.  All proceeds from Taste of the Town Santa Barbara events support the programs and services of the Arthritis Foundation. The Foundation is the only non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of 53 million people (including nearly 300,000 children) with arthritis through health education, advocacy, research, and local juvenile arthritis support.  Tickets for the Connoisseurs’ Circle Gala Dinner on Friday evening are $500 per person with tables of 10 for $5,000 which includes access to the VIP lounge at Sunday’s event. Individual tickets for the Sunday afternoon Taste of the Town are $125 per person in advance and $140 at the door (if available.)

LARRY LIPSON - THE AFFORDABLE WINE REPORT

For fifty years Larry Lipson was the food critic for the Los Angeles Daily News and now reports from Florida weekly with his thoughts and favorite picks for Food & Wine.  His lovely Wife Lillian is also on hand at the Lipson Institute for advanced wine studies.

GUS SHAMIEH CO-FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT, CREAM

CELEBRATE NATIONAL ICE CREAM SANDWICH DAY AT CREAM WHERE THEY’RE SELLING MINI VERSION OF ITS WARM, HANDCRAFTED ICE CREAM SANDWICHES FOR ONE PENNY

CREAM Co-Founder and President Gus Shamieh has some good news for ice cream sandwich fans:  today, CREAM, otherwise known as “Cookies Rule Everything Around Me”, is celebrating National Ice Cream Sandwich Day by selling mini version of its warm, handcrafted ice cream sandwiches for one penny at all of its locations nationwide, HONORING THE INVENTION OF THE ORIGINAL ICE CREAM SANDWICH IN 1900, WHEN IT WAS SOLD FROM A STREET CART FOR ONE CENT.

WHERE:
CREAM USC will be offering the promo from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
CREAM North Hollywood will be offering the promo from 1:00-4:00 p.m.
CREAM Northridge will be offering the promo from 1:00-4:00 p.m.

ABOUT CREAM:
In 2010, Jimmy and Gus led the Shamieh family in opening the first CREAM location in Berkeley, California. It was a throwback to their childhood, when it became a “thing” for them to sandwich rich ice cream between mom’s fresh-baked cookies making one-of-a-kind cookie ice cream sandwiches. We wanted to share these secret creations with the entirety of humanity (or at least Berkeley). We made four promises. The first was to provide premium products made from our own proprietary recipes with superior ingredients. Next, keep costs low so that happiness remains affordable for all. We also wanted to delight each customer by showing you the same love you’d show your own BFF. And, of course, a fun and relaxed atmosphere where an impromptu karaoke song and dance session could break out at any moment!

One taste of CREAM’s incredible ice cream sandwiches prepared to perfection, and you’ll be at a loss for words. Which is fine, because it’s rude to speak with your mouth full. Even if it’s filled with the most delicious ice cream sandwich you’ll ever have.

07/28 CYNTHIA PECK, ANGELO’S & VINCI’S, NATIONAL LASAGNA DAY, EMMA SWAIN, ST. SUPÉRY ESTATE VINEYARDS AND WINERY, STEVE EVANS, THE MOVIE GUY

IN HONOR OF NATIONAL LASAGNA DAY CYNTHIA PECK FROM ANGELO’S AND VINCI’S JOINS THE SHOW

OUR HISTORY
Forty-three years ago, our restaurant was built with tradition and has since continued with tradition. At our home in the old marketplace, we tribute our ancestors who came to America in the late 1800’s – their spirit and their recipes!

A little about this old building…
Originally built as an L-shaped marketplace in the days when Fullerton was an orchard (early 1900’s), the local farmers would bring their produce in from the fields by horse and wagon to sell to the townspeople. The original wood trusses of the old roof system may still be seen in the Venetian Room. Approximately twenty years later, renovation of the building changed it from its original L-shape to a square. This was accomplished by the large wood barrel trusses (an unusual truss!), which can be seen in the Sicilian Room and the Piazza Fantasia. During our renovation in 1992, the old wood, terra cotta tiles and brick was salvaged and re-used to keep alive the feeling and memories of those days long ago.

About our décor…
Be prepared when you walk into Angelo’s and Vinci’s Ristorante to be overwhelmed! With surprises in every corner, you won’t know where to look first! You will sit amidst the art of the great masters, in an Italian town square complete with the storefronts of old Italian butcher and cheese mongers, fruit and wine vendors, seamstresses showing their wares, and more. Fairy lights abound under cathedral ceilings as our ancestors smile down at you from the Family Love Altar. Explore and you will be surrounded by colorful Sicilian puppets, the carnival masks and canals of Venice, and the romance of Romeo & Juliet. Find our mystical Room of the Moon…and don’t forget King Kong, Dracula, Frankenstein, witches, ghosts and who-knows-what that await you in the Monster Wine Cellar!

And, as for Hollywood…
Founder, Steven Peck, renowned Hollywood dancer, choreographer and veteran actor of over 100 movies and television performances, has delightful photographs of over 40 years of famous stars, directors and dancers. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Gary Cooper, Robert Taylor, Broderick Crawford, Kirk Douglas, Walter Winchell, Sam Wanamaker, Vincent Minnelli, Sylvester Stallone, Ted Danson, David Hasselhof, Ray Sharkey, Shirley MacLaine, Cyd Charisse, Dolly Parton, Joan Collins, Raquel Welch, Olympia Dukakis, Shelly Winters and so many more. Films from Paramount, Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bros., MGM, Desilu, United Artists, Universal Studios, to name a few.

Ask for a “Walking Tour” brochure to find out more about the meaning and dedications behind our décor!

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is the world’s leader in the search for a cure for cystic fibrosis. We fund more CF research than any other organization, and nearly every CF drug available today was made possible because of Foundation support. We are a nonprofit donor-supported organization dedicated to attacking cystic fibrosis from every angle. Our focus is to support the development of new drugs to fight the disease, improve the quality of life for those with CF, and ultimately to find a cure.  The Foundation's drug development success has been recognized by Harvard Business School and by publications such as Forbes, Discover magazine, and The Wall Street Journal. Based in Bethesda, Md., the Foundation funds and accredits a national care center network that has been recognized by the National Institutes of Health as a model of care for a chronic disease.

JAMES BEARD AWARD-WINNING FOOD WRITER LAURA SHAPIRO - AUTHOR, WHAT SHE ATE: SIX REMARKABLE WOMEN AND THE FOOD THAT TELLS THEIR STORIES

WHAT SHE ATE: Six Remarkable Women  and the Food That Tells Their Stories

Food stories can be as intimate and revealing as stories of love, work, or coming-of-age. Yet most biographers pay little attention to food, as if these great and notable figures never daydreamed about what they wanted to have for dinner or worried about what to serve their guests. Once we consider how somebody relates to food, we find a host of different and provocative ways to understand them. Everyone eats, and food touches on every aspect of our lives—social and cultural, personal and political.

SHAPIRO EXAMINES A LIVELY & SURPRISING ARRAY OF WOMEN AND HOW THE THEME THAT UNITES THEM IS A POWERFUL RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD:
DOROTHY WORDSWORTH, whose food story transforms our understanding of the life she led with her poet brother
ROSA LEWIS, an Edwardian-era Cockney caterer who cooked her way up the social ladder and would fit right in on Downton Abbey
ELEANOR ROOSEVELT, the First Lady notorious for serving the worst food in White House history
EVA BRAUN, Hitler’s mistress who challenges our warm associations with food, family, and table, and whose last meal was famously a cyanide capsule
BARBARA PYM, whose witty novels upend a host of stereotypes about postwar British cuisine
HELEN GURLEY BROWN, the longstanding editor-in-chief of Cosmopolitan, whose commitment to ‘having it all’ meant having almost nothing to eat except a supersized portion of diet Jell-O

AMERICAN RED CROSS FACING CRITICAL BLOOD SHORTAGE ISSUES EMERGENCY APPEAL FOR DONORS

Donations down 61,000 over the past two months

The American Red Cross - the nation’s largest provider of blood products - is in the middle of a critical blood shortage, and Red Cross officials are making an urgent appeal to donors to give now and save lives.

Blood donations have fallen significantly over the past two summer months with 61,000 fewer donations than last year at this time. The Red Cross must collect nearly 14,000 blood donations every day for patients at approximately 2,600 hospitals across the United States. However, summer is one of the most challenging times of the year for donations with schools that host blood drives on break and many people off enjoying vacation.

Senior Vice President for Biomedical Services Recruitment and Field Marketing Cliff Numark will be available for live or taped radio interviews about the blood shortage on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 from 6 am to 1 pm (EDT) via a high-definition studio teleconferencing line.

Every two seconds someone in this country needs blood, but the blood donations are currently being distributed to hospitals faster than they are coming in. Red Cross officials stress that more blood is needed now to replenish the supplies and also be prepared for any major disasters that could occur this summer.

Donations are urgently needed now from new and current donors to fully meet the needs of hospital patients in the coming days and weeks. Please make an appointment today by using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting redcrossblood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
