JOE MANTEGNA – HONORING OUR AMERICAN HEROES FOR OVER 25 YEARS: THE NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT ON PBS LIVE FROM THE U.S. CAPITOL

JOE MANTEGNA AND GARY SINISE MARK 10TH ANNIVERSARY CO-HOSTING THE NIGHT OF REMEMBRANCE

All-Star Line-Up Featuring General Colin Powell, Gloria Estefan, Tess-anne Chin, Katherine Jenkins and Russell Watson!

This Memorial Day weekend, PBS brings viewers an inspiring night of remembrance dedicated to our men and women in uniform, their families at home and all those who have given their lives for our country.  The multi award-winning NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT returns live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol co-hosted by Tony Award-winner Joe Mantegna and Emmy Award-winner Gary Sinise.  The broadcast marks the tenth anniversary that the acclaimed actors, who have dedicated themselves to veterans’ causes and supporting our troops in active service, co-host the event.  The NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT will showcase courageous American heroes disabled for life; shine a spotlight on Gold Star Children who have lost a parent to war; and commemorate the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The all-star line-up includes: distinguished American leader Colin L. Powell USA (Ret.); multi Grammy Award-winning music legend Gloria Estefan; THE VOICE 2014 winner Tessanne Chin; classical cross-over artist Katherine Jenkins; and world renowned tenor Russell Watson in performance with the National Symphony Orchestra under the direction of top pops conductor Jack Everly (additional performers to be announced).  The 26th annual broadcast airs live on PBS Sunday, May 24, 2015, from 8:00 to 9:30 p.m., before a concert audience of hundreds of thousands, millions more at home, as well as to our troops serving around the world on the American Forces Network.

The 2015 NATIONAL MEMORIAL DAY CONCERT will feature the following segments:
There are over 4 million living disabled American veterans, a visible reminder of the toll of America’s wars through the decades.  A new national memorial in Washington, DC to pay tribute to these courageous American heroes disabled for life was dedicated in October 2014. The concert will feature the poignant stories of two veterans from different eras severely injured in war and living with life-altering disabilities.
Through the eyes of Gold Star Children, those who have lost a parent to war, we learn how their lives are changed forever.
This summer will mark 70 years since the end of hostilities in both Europe and Asia.  As the world commemorates the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II, the deadliest war in human history, we honor the sacrifices of America’s Greatest Generation, and remember the estimated 60 million men, women and children worldwide whose lives were brutally ended in the war.

FOOD NETWORK STAR SUNNY ANDERSON - GRILLING FOR HEROES... JUST IN TIME FOR MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

NEW GRILLING COOKBOOK RAISES MONEY FOR WOUNDED VETERANS

Just in time for Memorial Day, the biggest grilling holiday of the year, the Propane Education & Research Council is debuting a new cookbook, Grilling for Heroes, to raise money for wounded veterans. The cookbook features a foreword and recipe from Food Network personality Sunny Anderson.

Goodwill donations will be accepted in exchange for downloads of the cookbook at GrillingForHeroes.com. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to Hope For The Warriors, a nonprofit whose programs enhance the quality of life for post-9/11 wounded service members and their families.

The cookbook opens with a message from Anderson, an Air Force veteran and co-host of the Food Network show, “The Kitchen.” It also features a compilation of 50 original grilling recipes along with heartfelt stories of military servicemen and servicewomen as submitted by food bloggers and grill enthusiasts from across the country.

Hundreds of recipe submissions were collected through a contest last summer on GrillingForHeroes.com. From those entries, Anderson hand-picked her favorite recipe and story of military service, featured below. The winner, Shawn Syphus, a food blogger at I Wash You Dry, will receive a free trip to Washington, D.C., over Memorial Day weekend.

Visit GrillingForHeroes.com to donate and download the grilling cookbook, now available throughout 2015. GrillingForHeroes.com also features PERC’s tips for safe grilling including proper grill placement, what to do if the flame goes out, and proper procedures for relighting.

ABOUT SUNNY ANDERSON:
While growing up traveling the world as an Army brat, Sunny's parents always encouraged her to indulge in the local cuisine. When she joined the Air Force as a radio broadcaster and journalist, she continued her trek through the world for news stories while indulging in culinary finds along the way. Upon leaving the Air Force an award-winning broadcaster, she continued her travels as a radio DJ in many cities, culminating in her dream job in New York at a #1 rated radio station. There, as a hobby she began cooking for her friends in the entertainment business and turned her growing client list into a catering company. That led to a guest appearance on Food Network’s Emeril Live! in 2005 and shortly after, she left her radio career and closed her catering business to focus on chasing yet another dream, sharing her recipes with the Food Network audience. Things worked out in 2007 with her first show, Gotta Get It, a food gadget show, quickly followed by Cooking for Real, How'd That Get On My Plate and other Food Network show appearances. Her cooking style combines classic comfort foods along with unique flavors inspired by her many travels. She is the author of NY Times Best Seller Sunny's Kitchen: Easy Food for Real Life and is currently a co-host on Food Network's The Kitchen.

Sunny lives in Sunset Park, Brooklyn with her 4 rescue cats, Cheddar Cheese, Truffle Tycoon, Milky Mouth and Sea Salt.
