09/19 Chef Joanne Chang, Flour Bakery + Café, Holly Robinson Peete, Rodney Peete

Chef Joanne Chang – Author, ‘Flour, Too’ – Owner, Flour Bakery + Café in Boston

The ideal companion to Flour—Joanne Chang’s beloved first cookbook—Flour, too includes the most-requested savory fare that has made her four cafés Boston’s favorite stops for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Here are 100 gratifying recipes for easy at-home eating and entertaining from brunch treats to soups, pizzas, pasta, drinks, and, of course, Flour’s famous cakes, tarts, and other sweet goodies.

Recipes include bakery favorites such as Flour’s Famous Egg Sandwich, the comforting Mama Chang’s Hot and Sour Soup, the best Applewood-Smoked BLT sandwich, Mushroom and Leek Lasagna with Creamy Bechamel, and the thirst-quenching Cantaloupe-Mint Seltzer. Not to be forgotten are the desserts Joanne is known for including Lemon-Ginger Mousse, decadent Triple-Chocolate Mousse Cake and classic Butter Breton Cake.

Joanne learned how to cook and bake like most of us: with piles of cookbooks stacked on her kitchen counter, Julia Child on the TV screen and a lot of trial and error. This experience gives her a unique perspective on cooking and baking, which she shares throughout Flour, too, whether in dedicated sections or engaging recipe headnotes.

More than 50 glorious color photographs by Michael Harlan Turkell take readers inside the warm, cozy cafés and the night pastry kitchen, and demonstrate the beauty of this delicious food. With a variety of recipes for all skill levels, this mouthwatering collection is a substantial addition to any home cook’s bookshelf.

Joanne Chang is the chef-owner of Flour Bakery + Café in Boston.  She has a degree in applied mathematics and economics from Harvard University and was a pastry chef at Rialto, Payard Patisserie and Mistral restaurant.  She opened her first Flour Café in Boston’s South End in 2000. In 2007 she opened a second branch of Flour in the Fort Point Channel area, a third branch in Cambridge near MIT and Central Square in 2010, and a fourth Flour outpost in Boston’s Back Bay in 2013. She lives in Boston with her husband, Christopher Myers, with whom she owns Myers + Chang – a modern Asian restaurant.
