Executive Chef Richard Hodge BLVD 16 RESTAURANT AND LOUNGE AT THE HOTEL PALOMAR IN WESTWOOD

New Executive Chef Richard Hodge Takes the Helm and Launches a Westside Spin to American California Cuisine Re-designed Bar and Lounge Creates Friendly Neighborhood Gathering Spot BLVD 16, the restaurant at Kimpton’s Hotel Palomar located in the heart of the Wilshire Corridor in Westwood, is well positioned for a fresh re-launch. New Executive Chef Richard Hodge is now at the helm of the kitchen, and his introductory fresh and seasonal menu combined with an updated vibrant lounge and bar living room area, makes BLVD 16 the ideal spot for a range of guests seeking a new go-to restaurant in the center of the city, including: the traffic-fatigued commuters idling along Wilshire Blvd, the local neighbors seeking a hideaway within walking distance of their homes or the friends looking for the perfect restaurant in the middle to meet between their eastside and westside locales. With Hodge on board, BLVD 16’s culinary direction has been re-energized. “I’m excited to bring a bit of my Northern California roots to Southern California,” notes Hodge. “The ingredients will change seasonally and I’ll make my selections based on what I find inspiring at the farmers market. We want our guests to think of BLVD 16 as the type of restaurant where they can pop in one night for a burger and bourbon and then come another time and really explore the ‘Land,’ ‘Sea’ and ‘Pasta’ selections. We have designed the restaurant and the menu to feel like a great neighborhood gathering place—whether you live in the neighborhood or not.” Pasta highlights from the new menu include Mushroom Fettuccine with black truffle pasta, mushroom ragout, herb broth, pecorino and House-made Gnocchi with green garlic, mushrooms and spring onions. The Sea selections on the menu include, the Scottish Salmon, which is perched atop caramelized cauliflower, lentils, and served with tomato bread sauce.. From the Land, Hodge features both a Ribeye Steak, grilled to succulent perfection, topped with parsley salsa Verde and thick cut paprika fries, as well as delicate Lamb Chops served with cauliflower “couscous", grilled asparagus and pine nut pesto. Sure to become a BLVD 16 house favorite is the Bourbon** Burger** Beer. Delight in a Rogue Dead Guy Ale, a pour of Bulliet Bourbon and an organic beef burger with bourbon onions, smoked tomato, jack cheese, and black pepper aioli for $20. Atmospherically, BLVD 16 has been designed with an urban, contemporary ambience featuring warm wood accents, deep rich colors, soft lighting and an eclectic music. The cozy lounge now has the look and feel of an inviting living room with its comfortable sofas, sultry suede couches, high-back leather chairs and a view of the shimmering 25 foot long main bar. Guests enter the restaurant from the stylish hotel lobby, which features a central fireplace and lush sectional seating setting the tone for a warm and friendly dining environment. Although just a few feet away from the bustling Wilshire corridor, BLVD 16 provides the perfect serene setting for cocktails or intimate dining.

03/29 What's Cookin' Today

Frank Pellegrino RAO's - NYC and Las Vegas

Rao's is renowned for its jukebox, its quirky decor, its unmatched hospitality and most of all, the spectacular Neapolitan cuisine. It's also notorious for being one of the most difficult restaurants in New York in which to get a reservation. Year-long waits for one of its ten tables are not uncommon. But what is it about this tiny, charming restaurant that makes it the most in-demand spot in the city night after night, year after year? For decades Rao's existed as a neighborhood restaurant. Its local customers would fill the tables with such regularity that eventually they were given standing reservations - bookings that persevere to this day. The Rao's phenomenon exploded in 1977, when New York Times food critic Mimi Sheraton gave Rao's a gushing, half-page, three-star review, splashing the city's best-kept secret in front of millions of readers. Since Rao's NYC location only has ten tables, and only one seating per evening, the resulting demand would have been overwhelming even if the tables weren't already spoken for. That the tables were "owned" like a condominium translated to almost no empty seats In the house, night after night.

AT Toyoran - CDO /Jason Chodash - President "Tossed"

Three determined friends, one unique vision: To be the first to bring a fresh salad concept to NYC. Their hard work paid off when their vision came to life as they opened the first Tossed® location on Park Avenue South. The menu that featured a lineup of chef-designed selections, introduced bored lunchtime crowds to the concept of made-to-order salads and crepe wraps featuring over 50 fresh ingredients and homemade dressings. The customers came … and came. New York Magazine crowned us “New York’s best salad.” The New York Post raved, calling us “The granddaddy of the salad movement.” Who knew that a small salad restaurant would be the center of New York’s attention? We did. It was only a matter of time before an investment group realized the potential of Tossed®.

03/16 The Strand House, Smoked Olive, Hangover Cure, Steve Evans

03/16 WHAT'S COOKIN"

NEAL FRASER - Executive Chef, The Strand House

Neal Fraser began his culinary career in Los Angeles at the age of 20, working as a line cook at Eureka Brewery and Restaurant, one of Wolfgang Puck's earliest restaurants. Inspired by this introduction to the life of a professional chef, Fraser entered the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York, in the fall of 1990. During his tenure at the CIA, Fraser worked with such luminaries as Thomas Keller at Checkers Hotel in Los Angeles and David Burke at the Park Avenue Café in New York. Upon returning to his native L.A., he continued cooking with the best in the business, including stretches at Joachim Splichal's Pinot Bistro, Wolfgang Puck's Spago and Hans Rockenwagner's Rox. When he was ready to strike out on his own, Fraser opened Boxer in 1995. The time spent as executive chef and part-owner of the intimate, 50-seat restaurant afforded him his first opportunity to learn all the nuances and challenges of running a destination restaurant, earning glowing reviews from local and national media in the process. After three years he moved on to Rix in Santa Monica, continuing to attract media accolades with his weekly 8 to 10-course tasting menus, one of which was a controversial but well-received all-hemp menu! Fraser made another move in the fall of 1999, taking over the kitchens at the legendary Jimmy's in Beverly Hills. This coveted position would be short-lived, however, due to a change in building ownership. Jimmy's closed it doors soon after Fraser's arrival. He spent his down time contemplating his next move: the long awaited Grace. As partner and executive chef, Fraser serves his New American cuisine in an atmosphere perfectly designed to complement the ambitious flavors of one of Los Angeles' most revolutionary culinary talents. Fraser leverages all his abilities in his current role as executive for The Strand House in Manhattan Beach, a contemporary new American restaurant from the Zislis Group.

BRENDA CHATELAIN - SMOKED OLIVE

We never set out to create THE SMOKED OLIVE™, it was more a series of discoveries. People often ask us “what possessed you to smoke olive oil?” It wasn’t us — it was Al. Born into a family of gifted artists and Chefs, cooking and art are entwined in his soul. While his family painted more classically, Al’s style leans toward abstract. I always say he views life through Picasso eyes. How else could one have imagined smoked olive oil? The concept was a flash of inspiration, while the realization required many years of struggle and innovation to perfect. Al’s complex process proved to be so incredibly unique, we have a patent pending. So, how did his smoked olive oil become THE SMOKED OLIVE™? That’s where I enter the picture. Fortunately, in business as well as in our personal lives, we have wildly complementary skills. My small business background and sense of style melded perfectly with his inspired creativity. THE SMOKED OLIVE™ is a mosaic of every talent, skill, passion and dream we’ve ever had. It is the life we imagined. We are enormously grateful for our amazing customers; ranging from well-known Chefs to little 5-year old Leo…who now loves his vegetables. They have offered their most generous and heartfelt support, and remain the best salespeople that money can’t buy!

Dr. Leonard Grossman, M.D - "BYTOX" HANGOVER CURE

St. Patrick’s Day is tomorrow and to help with St. Patrick Day hangovers is Bytox, the latest in hangover prevention remedies, which will make everyone’s St. Patty’s Day a lot less painful the next morning. Bytox is a specially-formulated hangover remedy patch which effectively replenishes the vital levels of vitamins and nutrients your body loses when you consume alcohol. The innovative combination of vitamins, minerals and other essential nutrients help keep your body hydrated, which allows you to enjoy a hangover-free morning. Plus, unlike the alcohol consumed, the patch is zero calories. THE LA TIMES SAID:

"I recently came across an ad for something called the Bytox patch, which claims that it can prevent a hangover if you put it on 45 minutes before consuming large quantities of alcohol. Supposedly the patch delivers a mix of vitamins and minerals that are depleted when you, say, down several martinis and follow it up with a shot of tequila, thus restoring your body's natural balance so you can "party in style. At first I was like, "Wow, awesome! Where's that bottle of Stoli I hid in my desk?" But seconds later, when I really thought about it, I realized that drinking large quantities of alcohol without risking a hangover is a really bad idea. Here are the top three reasons why:

1. There is no way to "party in style" after you've had more than three drinks. By the time you are on No. 4, you are probably slurring to somebody at the bar about that time you saw a Milli Vanilli concert in junior high and didn't know they were lip synching. By the time you've had six you are dribbling mustard from an L.A. Dog down your party dress.

2. Hangovers are the only things that actually make you say, "I will NEVER drink again." Never mind that three hours later you are chugging Bloody Marys, you know, just to regain your balance. But at least for a few hours you really meant it.

3. If you don't wake up with a hangover, how do you excuse yourself from making out with that person who looked like a cross between Ashton Kutcher and Brad Pitt last night but suddenly looks more like Don Rickles? Think about it."

ADAM CAROLLA - FIRED ON SUNDAY NIGHT ALONG WITH MICHAEL ANDRETTI

NEXT FIRED CELEBRITY (NBC's "The Celebrity Apprentice") Adam Carolla is one of the most versatile men in Hollywood. After cutbacks forced Adam to quit his syndicated self-titled "Adam Carolla Show" broadcast on CBS radio, Adam started "The Adam Carolla Show" Podcast with only a computer and a microphone from his home office in February 2009. In May 2011, "The Adam Carolla Show" was awarded Most Downloaded Podcast in the World by the official Guinness World Records. Carolla can also be seen living out his childhood dream hosting SPEED Channel's "The Car Show." In 2010, Adam also added New York Times Best Seller to his resume with his collection of rants, "In 50 Years We'll All Be Chicks." Carolla is currently at work on his much-anticipated second book with Crown Publishing, due spring 2012. Before running his own online empire, ACE broadcasting, out of a garage in Glendale, Adam hosted the "Adam Carolla Show" on CBS radio stations in Los Angeles, Portland and Las Vegas. The four-hour weekday morning program was syndicated in several major markets, including Seattle, Sacramento and Fresno. Carolla wrote, co-produced and starred in the independent boxing feature film "The Hammer," which made its world premiere at the 2007 Tribeca Film Festival in New York. Additionally, Carolla has hosted Comedy Central's "Too Late with Adam Carolla" and starred in TLC's "The Adam Carolla Project," which chronicled the renovation and subsequent sale of his boyhood home. Following brief stints as a skilled carpenter and boxing trainer, Carolla began his career in radio after answering an ad seeking a boxing instructor to train then radio personality Jimmy Kimmel of KROQ's "Kevin and Bean Show" in Los Angeles. He eventually joined the show's repertoire as Mr. Birchum, a woodshop teacher. Carolla's success on KROQ led to a hosting job on the nationally syndicated radio program "Loveline" with Dr. Drew Pinsky. MTV developed a television version of the show, which was co-hosted by Carolla and Pinsky for five seasons (1996-2000). The duo also authored "The Dr. Drew and Adam Book: A Survival Guide to Life and Love." With their partner Daniel Kellison, Carolla and Kimmel are the heads of Jackhole Industries and have created and starred in two hit Comedy Central shows, "The Man Show" (1999-2003) and "Crank Yankers" (2002-present). Jackhole Industries also executive produced "Gerhard Reinke's Wanderlust," a comedy travel show, which aired on Comedy Central, and a reality-based feature film, "Windy City Heat," which won The Comedia Award for Best Film at the 2004 Montreal Just for Laughs comedy festival. In 2008, Carolla competed as a contestant on ABC's hit reality series "Dancing with the Stars." A huge car fanatic, Adam has participated in the Toyota Grand Prix Celebrity Race and the Concours d'Elegance for the last several years. A native of Southern California, Carolla currently resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Lynette, and their twins.

Shauna Sever "Marshmallow Madness!"
The Next Door Baker.

With her easy, fun and accessible approach to baking and entertaining, she inspires both the pastry proficient and baking-phobic alike to tie their apron strings and head into the kitchen. Whether it’s an easy savory tart for a weeknight supper, a birthday cake for the office or a decadent dessert to impress friends at a dinner party, Shauna gives you the know-how to bake up simple, flavorful recipes that are good for the soul and get people talking. Shauna’s passion for baking started at an early age, when she attempted to sell day-glo confections made from doctored cake mix, canned frosting, and copious amounts of food coloring to her third-grade classmates. Needless to say, the business never really took off. But after many years of practice as a self-taught baker (and a stint at San Francisco’s famed Tante Marie’s Cooking School), Shauna’s got it down. With her first cookbook, Marshmallow Madness! From Quirk Books published in February 2012; Her second cookbook coming in Fall 2012; Piece of Cake, a popular food blog named one of the top 50 food blogs by Babble.com; and the launch of Bake Sale Bakery, a small batch baking and dessert catering business, Shauna is matching her skills and her passion to make baking accessible to everyone

03/06 What's Cookin' Today

Cindy Chen Marketing Director, OREO: OREO IS 100 TODAY!!!

Magic happened on March 6, 1912 when two decoratively embossed chocolate-flavored biscuits met up with a rich crème filling: OREO was born! In honor of this delicious milestone, the World?s Favorite Cookie is on a mission to reignite the spirit of childhood by celebrating the kid inside all of us. And, it couldn?t come at a better time. The recently released Global Spirit of Childhood Report revealed that the majority of parents surveyed across 20 countries believe today?s kids are growing up quicker than did previous generations and should have more time to ?just be kids.? The report also showed that parents all around the world long for the carefree fun of their youth. ?In today?s hectic world, people have more responsibilities and pressures than ever before,? said John Ghingo, Senior Director for OREO Global. ?Despite this, the simple act of enjoying an OREO cookie and glass of milk continues to speak to a universal, human truth: inside all of us, whether grown-up or still growing, there?s a kid that deserves to be set free every once in a while.? This truth has helped OREO cross oceans and borders to capture the hearts of fans in more than 100 countries. Since the first OREO cookie was sold in Hoboken, N.J., this unbeatable biscuit has grown to become the world?s top-selling cookie from the United States to China, and has attracted more than 25 million Facebook fans globally.

HONORE COMFORT EXEC DIR SONOMA COUNTY VINTNERS

Sonoma County is not just a special place to grow world-class grapes and make great wines: It?s one of the most beautiful and resource-rich places on earth! 60 miles of pristine Pacific coastline and many other natural wonders are only the beginning of the story. We are blessed with amazing diversity of foods and produce, along with chefs who take full advantage of Sonoma?s bounty. Add to that our relaxed and friendly vibe and it all converges here. Sonoma County is a diverse landscape for grape growing that, climatically, is strongly influenced by maritime variations. Cool nights and days that rarely get hot contribute to layers of oceanic fog that creep into Sonoma?s interior valleys through numerous spots like the Petaluma Gap. Daytime temperatures average a comfortable 71F, with the warmest summer days rarely topping 84F. Nighttime temperatures stay mostly in the 40s, meaning hard frosts are a rarity, even in the spring, the critical flowering time for grapes. In September, at the start of the autumn grape harvest, the weather remains moderate with little to no rainfall. Sonoma County experiences no measurable snow or hail and normal rainfall measures between 25 and 30 inches a year.

02/29 Larry Manetti, Larry Lipson, Irish Whiskey

WHAT'S COOKIN - WED FEB 29, 2012

Colum Egan - Master Distiller of Bushmills Irish Whiskey
GET READY FOR ST PATRICK'S DAY AS MASTER DISTILLER FROM IRELAND SHARES AUTHENTIC RECIPES

Bushmills Irish Whiskey enjoys a worldwide reputation as a uniquely authentic Irish whiskey with a heritage spanning four centuries. At Ireland's oldest working distillery in Bushmills Village (County Antrim), the Bushmills Irish Honey new blend is produced, matured in bourbon-seasoned barrels and also in sherry- seasoned casks, and then bottled at 35% alc/vol. The community of County Antrim is one where whiskey has been shared among friends since 1608 when Bushmills was first granted an official license to distill. Colum Egan has been Master Distiller at Bushmills since April 2002. He's responsible for all the critical stages of whiskey production - all of them carried out at the distillery itself. That's very handy when your job is to ensure that the production of the whiskeys is done to perfection - as Colum likes it to be. It is Colum's expert knowledge of whiskey and his attention to the finest details that makes Bushmills whiskeys consistently the best. Colum lives in the little coastal town of Ballycastle with his wife and two sons, and says that he has found his dream job.

Larry landed an agent and was sent to Universal Studios to audition for an opening as a contract player. Luck was on his side. Jack Webb was casting a new series for NBC called The Chase. Larry played a young detective. After attending acting school at Sal Dano's at night and doing bit parts by day, he scored. Baa Baa Black Sheep was being produced and cast at Universal, and the now famous writer Stephen J. Cannell was the executive producer and the role was a natural for Larry. He was cast as a cocky, hot shot pilot named Bobby Boyle. The show was a big hit for NBC but was cancelled within two years. Because the network was so impressed with Larry's on-screen presence, they cast him in a new series called The Duke. Bad luck! The Duke was cancelled in one year. Larry was back to playing whatever Universal told him to. Hoping to catch lighting in a jar, along came Magnum, P.I. And the role of Rick. This was his elevator...the show became a mega-hit for 8 years. Since Magnum, P.I., Larry has done co-starring roles in 25 feature films and guest starred on many hot TV shows. Larry is the author of a book titled Aloha Magnum.

02/28 Noir Food & Wine, Dylan Minnette, Exec Chef of Safeway

What's Cookin" Tuesday FEB 28, 2012

MIKE FARWELL - MANAGING PARTNER & WINE DIRECTOR - NOIR FOOD & WINE

After creating Wine Bar 112 at Restaurant Halie and then Old Pasadena?s Vertical Wine Bistro, Farwell has teamed with Chef Claud Beltran to fashion Noir in an intimately petite setting on Mentor Avenue. His goal, it seems, is to recreate the feeling that swept over him during a life-changing visit he made to Willi?s Wine Bar in Paris in 1980. ?I just thought the whole idea of sitting down in a bar or at a table and being able to taste wines from a specific region, actually have more than one, that you could compare, and just spend an evening thinking about the wine and also eating good food as opposed to going out to get good food and then hoping they had good wine. I don?t like that concept. I don?t think that?s what dining is all about. I never have,? Farwell told us on Noir?s opening night. The feeling is decidedly friendly ? despite Beltran?s wonderful cuisine the object here is casual conviviality opposed to serious ?haute cuisine? in hushed tones. ?If you?re driving around and you don?t have anything to do, you can just come in the door, sit down and have a glass of wine and get treated like family,? Farwell says, describing Noir?s personality. ?We?re not going to have that fine dining kind of atmosphere. We?re going to have a friendly atmosphere.?Noir serves an all small plates menu which, Farwell says, lends ?to that casualness where a person can sit down and order some French Fries and a glass of Chardonnay if they want, or they can order a piece of meat with a Bordeaux.?

AWAKE Premieres, Thursday, March 1 at 10 PM on NBC

Following a tragic car accident, detective Michael Britten (Jason Isaacs, ?Harry Potter, ?Brotherhood?) finds himself awake in two separate realities: one where his teen son, Rex (Dylan Minnette, ?Lost,? "Saving Grace"), died in the crash and his wife, Hannah (Laura Allen, "Terriers") survived; and another where Hannah has perished, leaving Michael and Rex to pick up the pieces. In order to keep both of his loved ones alive, Michael begins living in two dueling realities, churning up confusion. In one reality, Michael and his wife debate about having another child, while in the other his son Rex is turning to his tennis coach, Tara (Michaela McManus, "The Vampire Diaries"), to fill the void from the loss of his mother. Trying to regain some normalcy, Michael returns to solving crimes in both worlds with the help of two different partners, Detective Isaiah "Bird" Freeman (Steve Harris, "The Practice") and Detective Efrem Vega (Wilmer Valderrama, "That '70s Show"). Michael is assigned a different case in each reality and quickly discovers that his dual existence is actually a powerful tool. He begins to solve impossible cases by using his two real ties to gain unique perspectives and link clues that cross over from world to world. Helping Michael to navigate his two realities are his bureau-assigned therapists Dr. Evans (Emmy Award winner Cherry Jones, "24") and Dr. Lee (BD Wong, NBC's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit"). While both therapists work to untangle his two worlds, Michael has no interest in proving either one is false. But when memories of the accident begin to haunt him, he is forced to confront the truth about what really happened the night of the crash.

Burke?s restaurant collection continued to grow when he purchased Fromagerie, a fine dining restaurant in Rumson, New Jersey where his culinary career began under founders Markus and Hubert Peter. David Burke is one of the very few New York City born and bred Chefs that is still known and recognized on the national radar. While many NYC Chef?s stars have faded?.
