8/26 - Larry Lipson, Marcia Monahan, Elizabeth Ward

Larry Lipson - Live from Costa Rica
Former LA Daily News Food Columnist (50 Years) Larry Lipson is live and direct from his research Institute in Costa Rica. He will talk about wine food and the good life and will have comments From Frommer's Travel Guide: " Wine: Although some European immigrants have been experimenting with wine grape cultivation in Costa Rica, no one has succeeded. The government did sponsor an experimental effort several years ago, but eventually most of the vines were ripped out. If you see Costa Rican wine for sale, it is almost surely from imported Chilean grape juice that is then processed in Costa Rica--the quality is terrible and it is--at least so far--not worth buying except as a total novelty."

Elizabeth Ward  - Egg Safety
Registered dietitian Elizabeth Ward gets specific on the do’s and don’ts on how to safely handle and properly cook eggs in your kitchen. Liz will demonstrate the proper techniques on cooking and preparing eggs and can answer these questions:
• Is it safe to buy eggs?
• What steps can I take in my kitchen to ensure safe egg preparation?
• What are the signs of under-cooked eggs?
• Can I still make my favorite recipes using eggs?
• Where can we find the most up-to-date information on the egg recall?

MARCIA MONAHAN - MATANZAS CREEK  WINEMAKER
Matanzas Creek Winery today announced Marcia Monahan will serve as winemaker. Originally from Chile, Monahan has 15 years of experience and is known as a proponent of sustainable agriculture and organic viticultural practices. “Marcia’s deeply-rooted respect for nature makes her very intuitive when it comes to winemaking,” said Winemaster Graham Weerts, who oversees Matanzas Creek production. “She doesn’t wrestle with the fruit. Instead, she tries to understand a vineyard’s strengths and quirks and then create a wine that showcases those special characteristics. She will be a great asset to Matanzas Creek and take the wines to the next level.” Monahan’s winemaking career began in 1995, at Viña Cousiño Macul in Santiago, Chile. She then joined Viña Canepa, also in Santiago, as assistant winemaker.
