Jason Day / Aaron Chronister  - "BBQ Makes Everything Better"
Jason Day has spent most of his life around the bbq pit, tending fires and flipping meat. It is no surprise he went into competitive cooking and joined the Burnt Finger BBQ team, now the envy of barbecue teams across America. He is the creator of the BBQAddicts.com website and, in response to overwhelming consumer demand, he developed retail versions of his award-winning Bacon Explosion recipe and Burnt Finger BBQ sauces and rubs.  Aaron Chronister has always loved cooking. As a child, he made the Mexican dinner that caused his mother to go into labor with his youngest brother. He joined a competitive bbq team, Burnt Finger BBQ, in 2008 and launched the extremely popular BBQAddicts.com website. He is the Vice President of Internet Marketing at a large web-based company and consults to Fortune 500 companies about search marketing and social media. He lives in Kansas City, the real barbecue capital of the world. Since cavemen discovered that fire makes good food great, grilling has been one of the most popular methods of cooking. From slow-cooked, aromatic meats to charred, juicy burgers and tender vegetables, everything tastes better hot off the grill. And it's not just gourmet chefs who can create scrumptious meals out of the perfect marriage of meat and fire; home cooks everywhere have enjoyed the simple pleasures of outdoor cooking for decades.  Aaron Chronister and Jason Day are two such home cooks whose mastery of the grill has catapulted them from their backyards to international fame. Originally just two guys who loved to barbecue, Aaron and Jason founded Burnt Finger BBQ--a competitive barbecue team that has garnered regional and national acclaim since its founding in 2008.

Frank Castronovo / Frank Falcinelli
"THE FRANKIES SPUNTINO KITCHEN COMPANION & COOKING MANUAL"
Frank Falcinelli has worked in Michelin two-star restaurants in France, with chefs Charlie Palmer and David Burke in New York, and was a partner and chef in the New York hot spot Moomba. He lives in Brooklyn with his French bulldog, Frankies mascot Merlin. Frank Castronovo trained with such culinary superstars as Jacques Pépin and France's Paul Bocuse. In 2003, he opened Frankies 457 Spuntino with childhood friend Frank Falcinelli. He lives with his wife and two daughters in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. From Brooklyn's sizzling restaurant scene, the hottest cookbook of the season. From urban singles to families with kids, local residents to the Hollywood set, everyone flocks to Frankies Spuntino—a tin-ceilinged, brick-walled restaurant in Brooklyn's Carroll Gardens—for food that is "completely satisfying" (wrote Frank Bruni in The New York Times). The two Franks, both veterans of gourmet kitchens, created a menu filled with new classics: Italian American comfort food re-imagined with great ingredients and greenmarket sides. This witty cookbook, with its gilded edges and embossed cover, may look old-fashioned, but the recipes are just we want to eat now. The entire Frankies menu is adapted here for the home cook—from small bites including Cremini Mushroom and Truffle Oil Crostini, to such salads as Escarole with Sliced Onion & Walnuts, to hearty main dishes including homemade Cavatelli with Hot Sausage & Browned Butter. With shortcuts and insider tricks gleaned from years in gourmet kitchens, easy tutorials on making fresh pasta or tying braciola, and an amusing discourse on Brooklyn-style Sunday "sauce" (ragu), The Frankies Spuntino Kitchen Companion & Kitchen Manual will seduce both experienced home cooks and a younger audience that is newer to the kitchen.

Mike Kane - Owner - "Woolfe's Huff & Puff Mini Mart"  New Lexington, OH

Not only was it a happy mistake, but a lucrative one, too.  Naomi Mauller, a store clerk in New Lexington, Ohio, flubbed the sale of a customer's Mega Millions lottery ticket Tuesday night by forgetting to add an additional "Kicker" game. Using the same numbers, she printed a new ticket for the customer and bought the botched one herself at a cost of $2.  Mauller's error ended up paying off for her and her customer, after the identical numbers won each of them a $250,000 prize.  Mauller and her co-winner, who has not been identified, celebrated the happy accident at the Mauller's workplace, Woolfe's Huff & Puff, on Friday.  "That was a mistake I'll never forget," she told the Zanesville Times-Recorder.  Mauller learned she went from lottery ticket-seller to winner last week when her boss, Mike Kane, was informed that two tickets sold at his store and bearing the same numbers had won $250,000 each. Mystified, he called Mauller for answers.  "My wheels started rolling and  thought, 'Oh my God, I bought the ticket a customer didn't want. I told Mike, and he said to get down to the store and check the numbers," she told the Times-Recorder. "When I did, it was a winner." Mauller said she planned to use her winnings to pay off some debt and buy a "decent" car to drive to and from work.

Or share tips about the best fishing areas and which parks have camping and hiking. Sure, I could give advice on which golf courses to play or talk a mean streak about our area’s great history. OK, I can’t resist this one: did you know Capt. John Smith came ashore in Virginia Beach in 1607 before moving on to settle in Jamestown? It’s true and it’s a fascinating story…see what I mean? I just can’t stop myself! That’s why we’ve created a blog; there’s a lot about Virginia Beach to share and our new ShoreLines blog is the perfect forum.

6/21 - Becky Burgoyne, Kate Lang Johnson, Genevieve Shaw Brown ,

Beckey Burgoyne "Perfectly Amanda - Gunsmoke's Miss Kitty: To Dodge and Beyond"
Beckey Burgoyne, an elementary school teacher from Illinois and daughter of a farmer, has penned her first book Perfectly Amanda, Gunsmoke s Miss Kitty: To Dodge and Beyond. Burgoyne was driven to write this biography of Amanda Blake based on her deep admiration of the actress and the strong woman she portrayed on television s Gunsmoke. Born in Danville, Ill., Beckey Burgoyne has lived in Illinois and Indiana all of her life. A graduate of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Ill., Burgoyne has always had a passion for the theater and English. Putting her two loves together, it only made sense that her first book would be about the famous actress who inspired her in so many ways. As an elementary school teacher since 1992, Burgoyne has taught math, science and physical education classes. Outside of teaching and spending time with her family, she also loves flowers and the theater. The self-proclaimed Flower Lady has been designing, planting and caring for 15 flowerbeds at her local bank for the last 10 summers. She is also involved in the choir/drama department at her church and has taken part in their Christmas and Easter dramatic musical productions for the past 15 years. She also works with the Danville Light Opera, a local community theater group, whenever she can. As a wife, mother, full-time teacher and now a published author, however, Burgoyne doesn t find a lot of free time. Perfectly Amanda, Gunsmoke s Miss Kitty: To Dodge and Beyond was the result of Burgoyne s lifelong love for and admiration of the great actress Amanda Blake and her Gunsmoke character, Kitty Russell, the owner of the Long Branch Saloon and love interest of Marshal Matt Dillon on the legendary Western series. As a young girl, Burgoyne was greatly influenced by Miss Kitty. She admired her independent nature and contentment with choosing a career over homesteading. As television didn t often portray women with such strength and strong will, Miss Kitty was truly an inspiration and an excellent role model for a new generation of women. To honor all that she stood for, Burgoyne put pen to paper for this biography.

Everywhere you look there are signs of a rebounding economy and travel and vacations are no exception. According to Travelocity's annual Traveler Confidence Report, which gauges travelers’ plans and attitudes, nearly half of respondents plan to increase their travel in 2010 as compared to 2009. While the most recent Travelocity data shows summer airfares are on the rise, hotel and cruise rates can still be found at rock bottom prices and this summer is a great time to take advantage.

The first ever “filled” candy bar, the MILKY WAY® Bar sold for a nickel in 1923. The smooth and delicious caramel found in MILKY WAY® Bars comes from a mixture of milk, sugar and a few other secret ingredients.  The original MILKY WAY® Bar was named after a famed malted milk drink of the day and designed to replicate the taste of malted milk shakes, which were the rage during the 1920s. As times changed and soda shops declined in popularity, the MILKY WAY® Bar has stood the test of time and is a true American classic.

HGTV Host Jeff Wilson - Live from Grand Canyon
America’s national parks protect and preserve the country’s most treasured spaces and historical sites. In addition to their natural beauty, our Parks contain a variety of structures that serve staff and visitors, like decks, boardwalks, visitor centers, tourist cabins, hotels, campgrounds, Park Ranger housing and more. However, extreme climates, floods, fires and the increasing number of visitors all cause wear and tear on these structures, and there is a severe backlog of maintenance and repair projects needed to keep the Parks safe and enjoyable for everyone.  Now there are two new ways homeowners can help protect and preserve our Parks while at the same time protecting and preserving their own back yard. From now through October 4, The Thompson’s Company will donate one dollar for each eligible product sold – up to $50,000 – to be distributed to the National Park Foundation on behalf of America’s National Parks. In addition, you can visit thompsonswaterseal.com and click on the “Donate Now” icon. Simply click and the brand will donate $1 to the National Park Foundation (up to $25,000.) Thompson’s Water Seal will also donate $25,000 worth of products for use in the Parks, for a total donation value of $100,000 for 2010. On Wednesday, June 16, HGTV’s Jeff Wilson will be available for interview LIVE from one of the country’s most amazing national parks – the Grand Canyon. Jeff will tell your viewers how they can help preserve America’s parks, offer tips for creating a home oasis in your own backyard (without breaking the bank!) and how you can qualify for the chance to win a vacation to the Park vacation destination of your choice!

Jamie Kennedy along with other funnymen like Tom Arnold, Kevin Nealon, Jeff Garlin, Paul Rodriguez, Louie Anderson will tackle the legal system as the court’s silliest “counselors.” DIRECTV’s original series, Supreme Court of Comedy, premieres Thursday, June 17 at 10 p.m. ET/PT on The 101® Network. He is also active in California's tourism campaign, having appeared in several commercials with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Since 2009, he has been in the TV series, The Cleveland Show.

Larry Smyth -  Carriage Vineyards
Enjoy the ride through history as you learn more about Carriage Vineyards!  The Carriage collection of Larry and Diane Smyth started in the early 1990s in Orange County. The Smyths like the history and elegance of horse drawn carriages. After securing their first of several vehicles they purchased a pair of Morgan horses. (So much for "the horse before the cart" theory!) The strong desire to get back to the "farm" became a reality when they bought the scenic 100-acre Ranch near Paso Robles. Thus "Carriage Vineyards" was created. In the winter of 1999, plans were developed for the vineyard and supporting facilities. 22,000 vines were planted on 27 acres with varieties including Grenache, Syrah, Viognier, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Also 850 olive trees! Many improvements have been made, including an environmentally friendly 20,000 watt solar system.  As the vines have grown, so have other projects including a Bed and Breakfast with a connected 2400 square foot carriage house. Visitors can enjoy the miles of roads through the vineyards, orchards and pastures or take a stroll through the gardens. The highlight of your visit comes from your impeccable hostess Leigh Anne Farley. Guests can't say enough about her and her attention to the details that make every visit a memorable experience.

Al Roker - Al  Roker Entertainment
AL ROKER ENTERTAINMENT is a fast-growing, highly efficient company dedicated to producing top-quality programs for cable and network television. The company is headed by one of America’s most trusted television personalities. Al Roker’s name and stellar reputation give his company unprecedented access to people and resources often unavailable to other production teams. The company recently produced the critically acclaimed and highly-rated series DEA for Spike TV, along with a series entitled Heavyweights for the Food Network, and a health special for NBC Local Media. We are currently in production on additional series and specials for: The NBC Station group, The Food Network, Tru TV, MSNBC, WE, MTV, and the History Channel. In addition, the company has forged programming partnerships with Carnival Cruise Lines, The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Readers Digest Foundation, and we also produced sponsored programming for clients such as Eli Lilly and Johnson & Johnson.  Working with AL ROKER ENTERTAINMENT can be quite cost-effective, as the company’s overhead is low. The staff is entirely focused on the production process. There are no non-production areas to be amortized on a project budget. Our post facility currently is centered on 4 Avid Symphonies for program finishing, and Avid Express Pros for offline editing. Alongside our Avid Unity Network storage system, our Post capability, including a state of the art audio recording booth, is readily scalable to meet various project needs. This eliminates the need for many third-party vendors, whose high hourly rates can send many projects soaring over budget. Al Roker Entertainment has also negotiated many preferential arrangements with Directors of Photography and camera and video crew resources both in New York and throughout the U.S.

Kathy Ireland - American model, actress, entrepreneur, CEO

Ireland was born in Glendale, California, the daughter of John, a labor union organizer, and Barbara Ireland, who worked in charity. At age 17, Ireland was "discovered" by an agent for the Elite Model Management company, and by the time she graduated from high school, she was working steadily as a model. Starting in 1984, Ireland was featured in the annual Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue for 13 consecutive years, with her final appearance in 1996. In addition to her long tenure within the pages, Ireland appeared on the cover of the annual issue three times, a feat tied by Christie Brinkley and Cheryl Tiegs and surpassed only by Elle Macpherson (with six or more appearances). Ireland was the cover model for the first time on the 25th Anniversary Swimsuit Edition, which became SI's best selling swimsuit issue to date. She returned to the cover in 1992 and in 1994. In her third appearance, she was accompanied by Rachel Hunter and Elle Macpherson; notably, both Hunter and Ireland were pregnant at the time. Borrowing on the tradition of blowing on an eyelash to make a wish come true, the LATISSE® Wishes campaign launched in 2009 to raise awareness and support for the Make-A-Wish Foundation®. Kathy Ireland and others joined Allergan to launch this campaign designed to help make wishes come true. Allergan made an initial donation of $500,000 to the  Make-A-Wish Foundation to kick off the campaign. For each of you who registered on LATISSE.com between the campaign's launch and December 31, 2009,

Allergan contributed an additional  $5 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  Your participation made a difference and, in keeping with its commitment to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Allergan has made the full $1 million donation. Thank you very much for your support and for helping make children's wishes come true.  Bobbie Thomas is TODAY's Style Editor and the author of the Buzz column for “In Touch Weekly.” and joins Kathy to talk about this charitable campaign.
